Increasingly, health care providers are being encouraged to screen for social determinants of health (SDOH) but doing so requires communication and coordination between social service providers and health systems, which traditionally function independently. A new report by our partner NORC at the University of Chicago with funding from the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE) presents a review and synthesis of community-level efforts to address SDOH based on interviews with participants in three community-level initiatives that have built networks to coordinate clinical and social services.

Recently published findings from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Health Data for Action (HD4A) program, managed by AcademyHealth, found that care teams provide better care to chronic disease patients than solo providers. This study snapshot outlines research by Maximilian J. Pany and Lucy Chen, who examined the joint impact of team-based care and provider type on biomarker-based outcomes for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, and hypertension.

The State-University Partnership Learning Network (SUPLN) is now seeking abstracts for the SUPLN-Hosted Adjunct Meeting “Research and Relevance in State Health Policy,” on September 22, 2021. The meeting will focus on novel approaches to addressing state health policy research needs, effective strategies for collaboration between researchers, state agencies and policy decision makers, and promising approaches for translating research to policy. Submissions are welcome from state government representatives, government researchers, non-government researchers, and university researchers with a focus on state policy research. Abstract submitters do not need to be a SUPLN member. Abstracts are due by May 14, 2021, at 5:00 p.m. ET to [email protected].

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Medicaid Medical Directors (MMDs) have played a key role in informing their respective agencies on clinical matters related to telehealth, especially around equity, quality, and payment. MMDs recently conducted an environmental scan to understand and synthesize key priorities for modernizing telehealth. A new paper outlines the collective policy recommendations of the group. It would be fun if a bunch of people going to ARM did the Taylor Mountain Trail run on Sat June 23. Maybe we could have a presence with matching t-shirts, and it would be a shout out for health. :-) There's a 5 mile run, a half marathon, marathon and 50K.
