During Marine Week Charlotte we commemorated 9/11 by climbing 110 stories with Charlotteans, the Charlotte Fire Department, and service members.

Hero of the Day | SSgt. Thomas Dudley

Hero of the Day

Today, we honored Staff Sgt. Thomas Dudley at a wreath laying ceremony at the UNC Charlotte Center City Campus Garden.

Dudley paid the ultimate sacrifice while conducting combat operations in Afghanistan, 2011. His wife, Mary Dudley, speaks about how much he enjoyed contributing to his country.

Hero of the Day | LCpl Nicholas O'Brien

Hero of the Day

Today, we honored Charlotte native, Lance Cpl. Nicholas O'Brien, at a wreath laying ceremony.

He paid the ultimate sacrifice while clearing a safe walking path for his Marines in Sangin, Afghanistan in 2011. His father, Richard O'Brien, speaks about what the Marine Corps meant to him.

You can attend our last wreath laying ceremony tomorrow from 9-10 a.m. at UNC Charlotte Center City Campus Garden.

Charlotte native, Lance Cpl. Noah Pier, paid the ultimate sacrifice. He was killed in action while supporting combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan in 2010. His mother, Vikki Pier, speaks about what her son's service meant to her.

Perry, the first African American to enlist in the Marine Corps and who is also a Charlotte native. Head to the Charlotte Art League to see it in person and to speak to any of the Marines working on the project. Don't forget to attend the Mural Unveiling on Sept. 9, 2018 10 - 11 a.m.
