Rep. Stephanie Murphy: We need infrastructure funding now | Commentary

The Senate passed a popular, bipartisan infrastructure bill negotiated by the President. It’s now before the House, but being unnecessarily delayed. I’ll vote to start reconciliation, but only if we finish our work on infrastructure.

Read my op-ed ⬇️

In a guest column, the U.S. House member announces that she will be standing up to her own party and pushing for an immediate vote on the bipartisan infrastructure bill that leadership and progressive Democrats are trying to hold hostage.

U.S. military evacuated more than 10,000 people from Kabul on Sunday

Of the 37,000 evacuations from Kabul since Aug. 14, 10,000 took place in the last 24 hours. While this is a good start, we have to work even faster to rescue Americans and our Afghan allies.

The U.S. military flew approximately 10,400 people out of Kabul over 24 hours on Sunday, and 61 coalition planes helped evacuate approximately 5,900, a White House official said on Monday.

The Little Wekiva River is in need of some serious help. The river, which used to be a popular spot for boating, has recently been overwhelmed with silt and debris. Rep Darren Soto and I introduced a bill this week to add the river to the National Park Service Wild and Scenic Rivers Program.

This designation would provide the Little Wekiva with federal funding and other forms of support so that the river, once restored, can be preserved for present and future generations.

Senate infrastructure plan a boost for Florida | Editorial

Florida needs investments in our infrastructure now. The bipartisan infrastructure bill will provide our state with tens of billions of dollars for:

🚙 Roads, bridges, and ports
🌐 Reliable, high-speed internet
💦 Safe, clean drinking water
🌎 Fighting the climate crisis with electric vehicles and clean energy

Congressional Democrats should not overreach on overall spending package.

As we continue to investigate what has gone wrong with the Little Wekiva River, I will keep pushing for federal funding for immediate restoration, as well as increased protection for the river long-term.

U.S. Congresswoman Murphy gets closer look at Little Wekiva River disaster

"In July, Murphy secured $688,000 in a U.S. House funding bill to help remove sediment, recontour the river and replant the surrounding basin with beneficial native plants."

U.S. Rep. Stephanie Murphy toured the Little Wekiva River in west Seminole County with a group of residents to get a close look at the sand and silt clogging the waterway.

08/11/2021

Today I visited the Little Wekiva River—once a treasured local spot for kayaking, canoeing, and other recreation—which has been destroyed by silt, debris, and invasive plants.

What I saw was striking. The degradation has not only limited recreation in the area, but it has also increased flood risk and destroyed animal and plant habitats.

Watch to learn what I'm doing to restore the river ⬇️

Now that the Senate approved the bipartisan infrastructure bill, the House must pass it ASAP. While I support passing a targeted reconciliation bill to help Florida families, we shouldn’t hold infrastructure hostage to it. I urge Speaker Pelosi to put the bill on the floor this month.

Red tide and other harmful algal blooms can damage human health, animal health, and our economy. I’ve worked to increase funding for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which just launched a new tool so Floridians can get regular updates about which beaches in their community are likely to be affected.

I also led a successful bipartisan effort to fund research into the health and economic impacts of harmful algal blooms in Florida, which will help ensure that state and federal policymakers take swift and serious steps to combat these blooms.

Senate approves bipartisan, $1 trillion infrastructure bill, bringing major Biden goal one step closer

#BREAKING: The Senate just passed a bipartisan infrastructure bill that will deliver a huge investment into America's roads, bridges, transit, ports, electric vehicles, and high-speed internet.

They did their job, now it's time to do ours. The House must vote as soon as possible.

Even though the proposal must still clear the House, the Senate outcome moves the bill one step closer to delivering President Biden his first major bipartisan win.

We must investigate America’s preparation for and response to COVID-19, in order to protect our country from the next pandemic.

Glad to see people supporting our push for an independent, 9/11-style commission, including the Los Angeles Times.

The U.S. needs a clear-eyed examination of the ways the pandemic response was bungled. California, which had its own missteps, should do the same.

Gratitude Stephanie, Your comment about being saved by the VICTOROUS Police should be the headline in all news casts. ALL videos of the rioters should hace a caption: These officers were successful at protecting all lives against overwhelming odds! The bravery of the police converted the possible loss of our democracy into just a skirmish. I suggest that the rioters should always be referred to as losers. I cried during the officer’s testimony. It was not from the feeling of pain they felt, but how they framed their experience. They don’t recognize themselves as the VICTORS. For them to get beyond the PTSD they need to recognize they were the winners in this skirmish. They did not save the physical structure, but they fulfilled their highest goal. They protected the people against overwhelming odds. Like 911 and Pearl Harbor this unprecedented strike against our democracy will mobilized our resolve to fight back. Please look at these comments: OPEN LETTER Please Share - How to pass bills through the Senate. We must break Republican unity to overcome the filibuster. The best way to do that is to force all senators to make public choices on single issue popular legislation. Democrats stop playing by the lobbyist playbook! Force senators to vote on bills that do not contain lobbyist "poison pills". You need to pass out of the House single issue bills. Accept no amendments in the Senate and hold accountable any who oppose the will of the People. If Republicans resist change they become the Public Enemy and increase our changes of Congressional gains in 2022. Pass a bill that simple states any person can use any federal, state, or city approved ID as voter ID as long as you are required to identify yourself as a US citizen. If the state or federal government accepts non photo identification as confirmation of US citizenship for any reason it must accept that for Voter ID also! I have a social/political question. Now that Juneteenth has been established. Can once every four years it to be celebrated on National election day as an expression of Freedom from slavery, but also the right and access to the vote franchise. GUN VIOLENCE - Common sense incremental steps as standalone laws. Like banning public possession of loaded high-capacity bullet holders. ACA Suggest one improvement the Public wants- force all senators to take a public position on single issue changes.
Government of Florida Duval County: Give an Online School Option in 2021! We are very disappointed about Governor Ron De Santis's stand on online education. We are not asking for mandatory online classes. Please give us an option for parents who are willing to keep their kids at home. The government knows our COVID-19 situation very well. There are three main reasons for this request. First of all, though there are virtual schools, enrollment in them will automatically cancel the magnet students' status. Magnet students and charter school students will lose their seats. The Department of Education is aware of this. The second reason is what will happen to kids with health issues. Going to schools in person with or without masks, with the proliferating Delta variant is risky for them. The third reason is parents' choice. Many parents in every county want to have an option for online classes through their childrens' schools in this pandemic. We request an option where students can be online without losing their existing school status. When we vote for a leader we believe that he or she will try his or her best to provide us citizens safety and freedom of choice. http://chng.it/G5LKPKKw Here is a petition for opening up Duval Homeroom. More than 700 people signed it. Thank you for your consideration.
WHY AMERICA STILL NEEDS MASKS, AND WHY NOT TO LISTEN TO CONGRESSIONAL TRUMPUBLICANS, AND BILLION DOLLAR LAWSUIT MAGNET MEDIA. 1. Trump ignored President Biden’s warning to the American people, and Congress, that Trump was ill prepared for the pandemic. Trump’s worst response to a manageable pandemic proved President Biden was correct, and a more competent Commander in Chief following the worst ranked and most corrupt administration in American history. 2. Trump refused to comply with the Pandemic and All hazards Reauthorization Act which requires Presidential Administrations to inventory and replenish the national PPE stockpile. 3. Trump refused to use the NSC Pandemic Playbook. 4. Trump deliberately stated disinformation about the COVID-19 lethality and deliberately withheld the crucial fact that it was airborne. 5. Trump shipped 17 tons of PPE to China, the number one manufacturer of PPE. 6. Trump politicized distribution of PPE, by hiring pandemic no-nothing Jared Kushner who hired pandemic no-nothing college students with a VIP distribution strategy favoring distributions to red states over blue states, and in some cases demanding blue state governors a public “thank you” to aid his re-election campaign. 7. Trump undermined and prolonged pandemic response by scheduling super spreader campaign rallies, which violated his administration’s safety guidelines. 8. Deliberately politicized wearing masks, which prolonged pandemic recovery, and was blatantly antithetical to the administration’s pandemic response strategy. 9. Trump undermined state governors authority to execute his administration’s federal safety orders — by attacking his administration’s safety orders. 10. Trump imperiled lives of several governors by stating “liberate”. 11. Trump used disinformation to incite violent protests in several states with Democrat governors. 12. Trump regularly stated disinformation during press conferences that endangered American health and lives. 13. Trump told hospitals to send their data directly to Trump Appointed HHS directors, and not to the CDC, with the purpose of corrupting the information for public consumption. 14. Trump’s poor excuse why he lied to the American people leaves the obvious fact that he had committed CRIMINAL NEGLIGENCE hundreds of thousands of instances. 15. Trump’s refusal to allow Congress to receive the annual threat evaluation made it impossible for members of Congress to determine if oversight of the worst response to a manageable pandemic, which resulted in a half million preventable fatalities, and the subsequent preventable economic collapse and preventable second worst Great Recession.
