My number one job as Secretary of State is determining what is in the best interest of the United States, ensuring our diplomacy takes actions in line with President Trump's America First policy. It is with this in mind that I traveled to Panama, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic on my first international trip since taking office. - Secretary Rubio

This week at State, Secretary Rubio traveled to countries in our hemisphere: Panama, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic. In each country, he discussed the illegal mass migration crisis and ways to expand regional economic opportunities.

The United States will work with our regional partners to confront the challenges of illegal migration and the flow of illicit fentanyl into the U.S.

Secretary Rubio: It was important to me that on my first foreign trip as Secretary I made a stop in San José. Costa Rica is a model for what other countries in the region and around the world can one day become. I am grateful to President Rodrigo Chaves for his warmth and hospitality. 🇺🇸🇨🇷
