PAVE (Parents Amplifying Voices in Education) was founded in April 2016 with an all-charter parent governing board in order to connect, train, and empower charter parent leaders to give families in DC a voice and a choice in the vision for education in our city. The goal of PAVE is to create an education system in DC where parents are partners and leaders in developing a diversity of safe, nurturing, and great school options for every child in every ward and community.

Parents' Hopes and Concerns for School Reopening

Today's #PAVEPost reflects on quotes from parents about their hopes and concerns for school reopening and #DCSchoolsRecovery. It is important NOW more than EVER that parents and communities are partners with our schools and policymakers so EVERY child receives the safe, nurturing, and great education they deserve. https://mailchi.mp/dcpave/080620

A School Budget ‘That Doesn’t Recognize There’s a Pandemic’: Experts & Advocates Sound Alarm That DC Is Underfunding Key Elements for All-Virtual Learning

This article by Taylor Swaak of The 74 features our ED and founder Maya Martin Cadogan and explains that while DC's FY21 budget made critical investments for many #ParentPriorities, not all needs were met for those most at risk, meaning members of our #DC community will have to work even harder to ensure our kids and families are supported through this pandemic and beyond.

Nevertheless, parent leaders are ready to #SquadUp to ensure EVERY child in EVERY family is supported through #DCSchoolsRecovery! 💪

D.C. Public Schools announced its all-virtual reopening plan a week after the D.C. Council approved the local FY21 budget, worrying experts and advocates that current funding levels aren’t enough to meet the challenge. While remote learning is expected through at least Nov. 6, nearly half of respo...

Today The Council of the District of Columbia voted on and passed the FY21 budget. Thank you for funding many of the #ParentPriorities that parent leaders laid out in their vision for #DCSchoolsRecovery and a more equitable DC! While we’ve made progress, this budget doesn’t meet the needs of every family - especially our Black, brown, immigrant, and low-income residents. And so, the work continues. We won’t stop fighting until EVERY child in every family has what they need to learn and thrive. 💜

In today's #PAVEPost, our Founder and Executive Director Maya Martin Cadogan writes about the stakes of tomorrow's budget vote. Investing equitably and protecting critical supports for parents and families is ESSENTIAL - we cannot afford to make last-minute cuts to school-based mental health, mental health providers, distance learning supports, and child care. #DCSchoolsRecovery

DC MUST PROTECT critical supports for kids and families - especially funding for school-based mental health, mental health providers, and child care.

Chairman Phil Mendelson and The Council of the District of Columbia, these are NEEDED programs and our communities cannot afford last-minute cuts. #TeamSBMH #DCSchoolsRecovery

A D.C. Dad Shepherded His 4 Kids Through Remote Learning by Relying on Structure. Now in Summer, That Structure Is Harder to Come By

Check out this beautiful article from The 74 featuring Ward 8 PAVE parent leader DaSean Jones. It follows a day in the life of his family - highlighting both the uncertainties AND the joys each day brings in the midst of #COVID19. #DCSchoolsRecovery

DaSean Jones lives and breathes structure. It’s what kept him and his four kids, ages four to 16, grounded when their D.C. public schools closed in March from COVID-19. Even though two of his children’s remote instruction was little more than printed homework packets, he’d wake them all up at ...
