The Chief Nurse of the Air Force, Brig Gen Gwendolyn Foster and her SG1N team recently visited the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) to strengthen ties and explore opportunities for the Air Force Nurse Corps. This visit emphasized collaboration between USUHS and the Air Force in training and developing future nurse leaders for military healthcare.
USUHS provides advanced education and training tailored to the unique demands of military healthcare environments, offering programs that focus on leadership, trauma care, public health, and operational medicine. For the Air Force Nurse Corps, USUHS presents a pathway to specialized skills, fostering readiness and resilience through evidence-based practices and military-focused research. This partnership enables Air Force nurses to develop clinical expertise and leadership competencies essential for serving in diverse global missions.
USUHS offers advanced degree programs for Air Force Nurse Corps officers that support military healthcare needs. These programs include master’s and doctoral degrees in nursing, focusing on clinical, research, and leadership skills essential for operational readiness. Key offerings include a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and a PhD in Nursing Science, which emphasize evidence-based practices, trauma care, and public health tailored for military contexts. Additionally, USUHS provides specialized training in nurse anesthesia, family nurse practitioner, and mental health nursing, equipping Air Force nurses with the expertise to lead and excel in diverse, high-stakes healthcare environments worldwide.
