I was proud to sponsor “Let’s Talk Construction” workshop event in support of entrepreneurs, aspiring contractors, and small construction businesses. This event was in partnership with the Governor’s Office of African American Affairs, Talent Ready AZ, the Arizona Registrar of Contractors, and ACRES.

I shared that housing is one of my highest priorities. In addition to preserving and creating thousands of housing units, the Council acted to help facilitate accessory dwelling units and the City is working to streamline permitting processes. With these efforts there will be opportunity for contractors to help build a Phoenix where everyone can call home.

Last weekend, we celebrated the grand reopening of the renovated sports courts at Pierce Park. With new pickleball and tennis courts, residents now have more ways to enjoy the park in District 8. I also provided free pizza from Pizza Arno and hosted a free pool day as part of the festivities. Thank you to our Parks and Recreation team and the neighborhood leaders for your efforts to activate the park and for joining the celebration.

During today’s City Council meeting, my colleagues and I approved several items benefiting District 8 residents.

Yesterday we celebrated the grand reopening of Memorial Towers. This $64.5 million renovation preserves 153 affordable homes for seniors, with $1 million in City of Phoenix HOME funding supporting the project. The renovated community includes recreation areas, community spaces, an exercise room, and on site services to help residents stay active and connected.

Too many households in our hardest hit neighborhoods live one emergency away from losing their home. I am grateful for our partnership with Maricopa County, AZ to implement a pilot that will direct help where it is needed most and that will pair assistance with follow-up support, so families aren’t left on their own after the rent is paid.

Additionally, most property owners want resolution, not eviction. This pilot invites owners to partner with residents and the courts to resolve the issue swiftly and keep households housed. Together, we can reduce costs, reduce eviction filings, and deliver the stability that benefits families, owners, and our neighborhoods alike.

Funding is limited. Apply before the applications close:
