Members of Waterbury Fire Fighters Local 1339 will join our fellow first responders and the Waterbury community next week for the annual 9/11 Honor & Remembrance Ceremony.

We gather to honor the lives lost, remember the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice, and ensure their courage and service are never forgotten.

In observance of Labor Day, Monday September 7, 2026 the following schedule changes will be in effect for the Bureau of Refuse.

No trash or recycling collection on Monday 9/7/26. Normal Monday collections will occur on Tuesday and Tuesday collection will occur on Wednesday.

The Mark Lane Transfer Facility will also be closed on Saturday September 5th and re-open Tuesday September 8th at 7 AM.

LEAF & (organic) YARD WASTE COLLECTION: Waterbury Public Works will collect leaves, grass and other organic debris from curbside Wednesday 9/2, 9/23, 10/28, 11/11, 11/18 and 12/9. Please make sure that leaves, grass, weeds etc are in paper yard waste bags. Material in plastic bags will not be collected. Small brush/branches may also be put out at curb if tied in bundles small enough that one person can easily collect them. The leaves, grass and small branches will be ground up by Supreme Forest Products and turned into soil amendment for gardening etc.

Join the City of Waterbury and UCONN Health – Waterbury Hospital for an afternoon dedicated to recovery awareness on Wednesday, September 9, from 2pm – 5pm at Waterbury City Hall.

The event will feature a resource fair, a remembrance ceremony honoring the lives lost to addiction, and an opportunity for trainings and screenings.
