Hello I'm running as a Candidate for the Schuyler County Legislator District 6 - Watkins Glen

~~My Stance on Political Views~~

Gun Control
As the youngest brother in a family that loves hunting, the importance of fi****ms is well understood. My father taught gun safety classes for decades and was a fine sportsman. While living in Colorado, a teaching interview coincided with the tragic Columbine shootings. The depth of this issue is clear. There is a firm belief that background checks are necessary and that oversight is paramount to ensure those who are mentally unstable have regulations over gun access.

Abortion and Adoption Rights
Having adopted two sons as infants, the importance of family is deeply felt. There is a strong belief that a woman has the right to choose what she does with her own body and that Roe v. Wade should be upheld.

Same-Sex Couples
Being in a committed relationship for 25 years, the belief remains that love is love. Same-sex couples deserve the same rights and abilities as heterosexual couples. Marriage took place during the first week that same-sex marriage became legal in the
United States.

The Arts
Experience at the Clemens Center and founding a theatre company in Colorado for over two decades has shown that the arts have the power to transform lives. Artistic expression is a vital need for the region.

Parks and Beautification
Coming from Colorado to establish the Seneca Lake Events Center under the Village of Watkins Glen was a significant professional step. Creating the walking trails within Clute Park and adding over 200 trees and shrubs to that location was a positive experience.
Improving the park helps residents feel a stronger sense of pride as they walk, hike, or drive through the area.

Budget Oversight
Decades of experience working with boards of directors have provided a vast understanding of budget oversight and fiduciary responsibility. In the legislature, tasks would include monitoring the county budget and finding ways to help keep taxes at
affordable rates. Given current economic changes, inflation, and rising costs, this oversight is tremendously important.

Tourism and Economic Development
There is a strong understanding of how wineries, the State Park, Watkins Glen International, and the camping industry drive tourism in Watkins Glen and Schuyler County. A delicate balance is needed between encouraging tourism and respecting the daily lives of local residents. The goal is to help the Watkins Area Chamber of
Commerce and SCOOPED achieve their objectives while prioritizing the voices of constituents.

Immigration
The Southern Tier relies on a dedicated workforce to perform essential tasks, especially within the wine trail region. The region is currently facing a workforce crisis with many unfilled jobs. It is important to support inclusion rather than deportation to ensure the regional economy remains strong.

Youth, Technology, and Education
Limiting screen time and cell phone use for youth is a positive step. Children need movement, fresh air, and more time dedicated to reading and education. The next generation must be set up for success, which includes evaluating how AI can be used as a tool rather than a hindrance. As a parent dealing with these issues daily, this is a priority.
