This article speaks to so many pit falls of the early childhood educators jobs and struggles for average American families. As I have observed others go out into the world like there is no virus and gather in crowded public spaces with out masks, gather with friends and family and then enter public spaces without a single thought of anyone but themselves I get very frustrated. As a Family Childcare Provider I serve ages birth to three. Children who can not be protected by a vaccine yet are put in my care daily for safe keeping and care. As a result of that responsibility I stay home and stay away from others. I am fully vaccinated and boosted but, I can not take the chance of carrying the virus and giving it to a child and their family. I as so many others have stayed apart from family members and friends for two years. We have mourned the loss of family and friends distantly and alone to keep those we care for safe. Childcare is key to helping working families carry on and fill jobs and to care for their families. WIthout support of the BBB I fear this will never happen. I can only speak for myself but, when I hear Senator Ron Johnson say things like, ”it isn’t our job to raise other people’s kids”. I wonder why he holds public office working for “the people”. It takes a village to raise a family, it has from the beginning of time. In cases like Mr. Johnson’s it may mean a hired nanny or household manager but a village none the less. Let’s start to think of the sacrifices being made not only by families but those who educate and care for the children when making choices. IF you do not have children, wear a mask for those who do. Programs close due to exposure and illness. Do what we can to mitigate that! Wear a mask, behave as if we are in a pandemic, WE ARE! Get vaccinated and do not gather in large groups where mitigation is not taken. Be a part of the solution not the problem. Build Back Better is essential to the economic fabric of this country. It’s contents always have been and never more than now.
The people who take care of and educate children under 5 years old, who are too young to be vaccinated, are in a special kind of hell right now.
