Really important reminders as our community heads back to school! Stay safe, Tosa, and have a fabulous first week back!

🏫📚 It’s back-to-school time, Tosa!

The first day of school means more students walking and biking, busy drop-off and pick-up areas, and a lot more traffic around our schools.

A few reminders as everyone gets back into the school-year routine:

🚸 Slow down in school zones.
👀 Watch for students walking and biking, especially near crosswalks.
🛑 Pay attention to signs, signals, and crossing guards.
📱 Put the phone down and keep your attention on the road.
⏳ Be patient. Give yourself a few extra minutes.

Let’s work together to make sure our students, families, teachers, and everyone else on the road have a safe start to the school year.

We have started the process of an appointment to fill the open seat in District 6 until the special election in April. Please encourage anyone in District 6 with interest to apply!

The City of Wauwatosa is seeking applicants to fill the vacancy for Aldermanic District 6.

Applicant Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must be a qualified elector in the City of Wauwatosa
- Must reside within Aldermanic District 6

The compensation is $587.50 per month. Expectations include regular meeting attendance, including Common Council meetings, assigned standing committee meetings, and resident outreach.

Interested individuals must submit an application packet including:
1) Letter of Intent (including full name and date of birth)
2) Current resume
3) Any additional supporting materials (optional)

Submit your materials to the City Clerk’s Office by Friday, August 21, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. You can submit:

Selection Timeline
The Aldermanic Selection Committee will review applications and conduct public interviews at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at City Hall. Following interviews, the committee will forward its recommendation to the full Common Council for final confirmation.

One of the questions I’ve been hearing most often from residents is, “What are the differences between the four Library and City Hall options?”

To help answer that, the City has added additional information to the project webpage outlining each option side by side. Please remember that any renderings shown are conceptual and intended only to help illustrate the possibilities—they are not final designs.

If you haven’t had a chance to review the options yet, I encourage you to take a look and share your feedback through the project website. Whether you support one of the proposed options, have concerns, or simply want your perspective to be part of the conversation, your input is important.

Community feedback submitted through the project page will be compiled and provided to the Common Council ahead of our public meetings on July 21 and July 28.

Heads up about some road closures next week!

🚧 ROAD CLOSURE: 68th St. & Hillcrest (starting Tues, July 7) 🚧

Please plan ahead. Starting at 7:30 am on Tuesday, July 7, 68th St. and Hillcrest Dr. will be closed to through traffic for water valve repairs and road restoration.

Closures:
68th St: Closed between Lloyd St. and Yale Pl.
Hillcrest Dr: Closed between 69th St. and Revere Ave.

"No Parking" signs will be posted on Yale Pl. between 68th and 69th St. Please make sure vehicles are moved.

Schedule:
Tuesday 7/7: Road closure begins; repairs completed.
Wednesday 7/8 – Thursday 7/9: Concrete road restoration.
Friday 7/10: Traffic control removed; 68th St. fully reopened

This work is subject to weather.

Note: You may also see crews doing a sidewalk slab replacement nearby at 6614 Hillcrest, but this will remain outside of the main road closure. Thank you for your patience.

I’m honored to share the two Common Council subcommittees I've been appointed to for the coming term:

▪️ Community Affairs Committee
This committee focuses on development, public safety, quality of life issues, and city marketing efforts.

▪️ Government Affairs Committee
This committee oversees matters related to licensing, employee relations, communication, governance, strategic planning, legislative affairs, and council administration.

In addition, I’ve been appointed as the Common Council liaison to both the Historic Preservation Commission and the Commission for Persons with Disabilities.

These appointments reflect so many of the issues I care deeply about: thoughtful growth, strong neighborhoods, accessibility, preservation, communication, and making sure Wauwatosa continues to be a community where people feel connected and heard.

Our first committee meetings are tonight, and I’m looking forward to getting to work alongside my fellow council members, city staff, commissioners, and residents.

Some information from District 5 Alder Gustafson on the traffic calming demo on 68th street.

🚧 Traffic Calming Demo on 68th Street

If you’ve driven on 68th Street recently, you may have noticed something new at the Meinecke Ave and Clarke St intersections. Temporary traffic circles set up with barrels by our DPW and Engineering teams.

Here’s what’s going on: both intersections are part of the City’s neighborhood traffic calming program. Data collection has shown a pattern of speeding along 68th Street, along with a crash history at Meinecke and Clarke. The temporary traffic circles are a demonstration aimed at slowing speeds on 68th and drawing drivers’ attention to cross-traffic coming from the side streets.

While the barrels are in place, city Engineering staff will be gathering additional speed data to see whether the configuration actually brings travel speeds down.

Now that the campaign is over, this page is transitioning into my official page as Wauwatosa District 4 Alderperson. I’ll be sharing updates, city news, and important information for District 4 and all of Wauwatosa.
