State Rep Anthony Moore Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics Aero Education

In a tight labor market where skilled technicians are increasingly hard to find, one local individual has stopped searching the nation for resumes and started growing his own talent at the local airport.

During Tuesday’s Kiwanis Club meeting, Dennis Falasco, general manager of Omega Aircraft Services, shared the success of a unique partnership with Weatherford High School for the school’s aviation maintenance program. The initiative, which began four years ago and branched into maintenance recently, has moved out of the traditional classroom and into the Stafford Airport hangar, giving students a head start on potential careers in aerospace.

The Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics is celebrating another year leading the nation with the highest number of schools teaching aviation curriculum! More than 144 schools are now teaching the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association “You Can Fly” program across the state. This free program gives Oklahoma kids a head start on the path to well-paying jobs in the aerospace and aviation industry. Last Aviation Day of the Year! We brought out PreK-6th graders out to the museum and airport this past month. We had a blast! The future is bright for our future aviators! Thank you Stafford Air & Space Museum and Stafford Airport for having 1,700+ WPS students out for FREE! We are grateful!!

Burcham Kindergarteners came out to the Stafford Air and Space Museum and airport today! We had a great time and learned a lot about space today! Thanks to Dennis Falasco for always having his plane out for us to explore and Rick Ingram with Red Dirt Aviation for allowing some of our kindergarten students to sit in his plane! Thank you to the staff of the museum and airport for always welcoming our students and staff!

Today some of our aviation and aviation mechanic students went to the state capitol for Aero Day! Students were able to network at various aviation booths and listen to speakers in the industry. A big thanks to Speaker Pro Tempore Anthony Moore for taking time out of his busy schedule to visit with our students!

Aviation Day! We brought through 280 Stafford Elementary students to explore a plane, fly a glider, play on the playground, learn more about General Tom Stafford and exploring planes/space. We appreciate the museum and airport welcoming our students! 📸 Kelly Metscher
