This Labor Day, I cannot help but think about the fallen and injured Dallas Police Officers who will not be returning to work tomorrow. Although this job can be rewarding beyond what we deserve, news like this remind us of all who sacrifice.
Whenever a Police Officer is hurt or killed on the job, especially one so close to home, every Officer, every Officer's spouse, every Officer's mom and dad, brother and sister, holds their breath for a moment, knowing that one day it could be them or their loved one. To say our thoughts and prayers are with those Dallas Police Officers is not enough, because we know that every time an Officer leaves their home with a uniform on, a mother is saying a silent prayer that their Officer returns home. When they don't, when that wife has breathed that hopeful prayer for the last time, there are no more words that can reassure her.
As Officers, we can only continue to carry on their work with more fervor, to train a little harder, to be a little more vigilant. To every Dallas Police Officer and every officer who continues to choose to put a uniform on everyday and serve a mission greater than themselves, thank you for your labor of love.
