Statewide Burn Ban August 1

Washington state is under a emergency statewide burn ban through September 30, 2026, enacted by the Governor due to severe drought and extreme fire weather. You can check active restrictions via the DNR Burn Portal, https://dnr.wa.gov/wildfire-resources/outdoor-burning/burn-restrictions

Ban Details & Restrictions

Duration: Effective August 1 through noon on September 30, 2026 across all 39 Washington counties.

Prohibited: Yard debris, trash disposal, land clearing, roadside w**d burning, agricultural burning (without specific active permits), bonfires, and open campfires.

Allowed: Self-contained gas or propane stoves and grills placed on non-flammable surfaces with proper clearance from vegetation (at least 5 feet away).

Local Rules: Local jurisdictions or counties may enforce even stricter local bans (such as existing stage restrictions on campfires in specific areas) that override general allowances.

Fireworks are illegal. The risk is real.

As we head into the holiday weekend, please remember that fireworks are illegal throughout all of Chelan County and most of Douglas County. With critical fire weather across our region, one spark is all it takes to threaten homes, businesses, and lives.

Nearly 90% of wildfires in Washington are caused by people, and fireworks remain one of the leading preventable causes of fires during the Fourth of July. Choosing not to use illegal fireworks is one of the easiest ways to help protect our community.

Your firefighters are ready to respond but we would much rather prevent the next fire than fight it. Please celebrate responsibly by attending a professional fireworks show or choosing other family-friendly ways to celebrate. Thank you for doing your part to keep the Wenatchee Valley safe.

ROAD CLOSURES COMING: Just giving you all a heads-up that we will be closing again this year Horse Lake and Burch Mountain roads in Wenatchee because of concerns of illegal fireworks and drought conditions.

The closures are July 1-8. We will reopen the gates of both roads on July 9. Please plan accordingly because we know these roads lead to popular hiking areas.

People with homes beyond the gates will have access.

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of retired Battalion Chief Ken Christensen, who dedicated more than 30 years of service to Wenatchee Fire & Rescue and continued serving our community as a Fire Commissioner for Douglas County Fire District 2.

Chief Christensen's commitment to the fire service, his leadership, and his friendship left a lasting impact on generations of firefighters and the communities he served. Our thoughts are with his wife, Deeda, his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Family, friends, and members of the fire service are invited to celebrate Ken's life on Saturday, June 27, at 2:30 p.m. at Jones & Jones – Betts Funeral Home, 302 9th Street, Wenatchee.

A reception will follow from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at Pybus Public Market in the Localtel Event Center. Please join us in honoring a lifetime of service and remembering Battalion Chief Ken Christensen.
