Wenatchee Valley Fire Department Our response area is 211 square miles, home to approximately 81,000 citizens.

Wenatchee Valley Fire Department was created in 2022, as the result of Douglas County Fire District 2 and Chelan County Fire District 1 forming a Regional Fire Authority.

ROAD CLOSURES COMING: Just giving you all a heads-up that we will be closing again this year Horse Lake and Burch Mountain roads in Wenatchee because of concerns of illegal fireworks and drought conditions.

The closures are July 1-8. We will reopen the gates of both roads on July 9. Please plan accordingly because we know these roads lead to popular hiking areas.

People with homes beyond the gates will have access.

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of retired Battalion Chief Ken Christensen, who dedicated more than 30 years of service to Wenatchee Fire & Rescue and continued serving our community as a Fire Commissioner for Douglas County Fire District 2.

Chief Christensen's commitment to the fire service, his leadership, and his friendship left a lasting impact on generations of firefighters and the communities he served. Our thoughts are with his wife, Deeda, his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Family, friends, and members of the fire service are invited to celebrate Ken's life on Saturday, June 27, at 2:30 p.m. at Jones & Jones – Betts Funeral Home, 302 9th Street, Wenatchee.

A reception will follow from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at Pybus Public Market in the Localtel Event Center. Please join us in honoring a lifetime of service and remembering Battalion Chief Ken Christensen.

We're grateful to the team who dedicated countless hours to planning and building this apparatus. Their work has delivered a truck that will serve our community for many years to come.

At 1:02 p.m. today, Wenatchee Valley Fire Department crews were dispatched to a grass and brush fire along Highway 28 near Milepost 1. Upon arrival, firefighters found an approximately one-acre grass fire burning between the Loop Trail and the Columbia River.

Four brush trucks, two engines, a ladder company, and a battalion chief responded and quickly contained and extinguished the fire. The 3rd Street exit was temporarily closed while crews worked to suppress the fire and complete mop-up operations, causing traffic disruptions in the area. There were no injuries reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

As temperatures rise and vegetation continues to dry out, we encourage everyone to use extra caution with open flames, smoking materials, and anything else that could spark a fire. A small ignition source can quickly become a significant incident during fire season.

We are honored to announce that the Wenatchee Valley Fire Department has been recognized with the 2025 Best CPR Performance Award by a Basic Life Support (BLS) agency.

Receiving this award during National CPR & AED Awareness Week (June 1–7) makes this recognition even more meaningful. This week highlights the lifesaving importance of CPR and Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and the critical role they play in improving survival from sudden cardiac arrest.

This achievement reflects the dedication, training, and commitment of our firefighters, EMTs, emergency dispatchers, and community partners who work every day to provide exceptional emergency medical care. Most importantly, it represents lives impacted and lives saved throughout the Wenatchee Valley.

We are proud to serve our community and remain committed to advancing emergency medical care, public education, and CPR awareness.

On Wednesday, June 10, at 8:30 a.m., we'll celebrate the arrival of our newest ladder truck with a traditional push-in ceremony. This time-honored fire service tradition marks the truck's official placement into service.

The public is welcome to attend. Please note that parking is limited, so plan accordingly.

Wednesday night at the Washington State Fire Chiefs annual banquet, Wenatchee Valley Fire Department Fire Chief Brian Brett was honored with the Dan Packer Fire Chief of the Year Award. Chief Brett was nominated multiple times by his peers, and he expressed both gratitude and humility in receiving this distinguished recognition.

The award recognizes outstanding leadership, dedication to the fire service, and commitment to the communities served.
