Dear Community Members of the West Allis-West Milwaukee School District:
This post is in response to recent inaccurate rumors regarding a salary increase involving one of our school leaders. Specifically, there rumor is that the District has offered an elementary principal a $20,000 (or in some posts $23,000) to stay in the district. These rumors are absolutely false.
As we have communicated often, the salaries for administrators and teachers in our District are trending below the region which makes it a challenge for us to attract and retain them. We are working hard to hire and keep administrators and teachers that possess the expertise needed to best serve our children.
As it relates to this situation: There are instances when we have offered a supplementary contract to an administrator or teacher. This means the individual takes on additional responsibilities for a commensurate compensation increase. This model is a cost effective approach that allows us to support the work of the district and our schools.
I am hopeful that this information is a clear response to current social media rumors. As you receive information on social media, please take a moment to reflect on whether it is likely to be true. If you have questions or concerns, we always invite you to call our District Offices. Much misinformation is communicated on social media and broadcasting it further is not helpful to our schools or community.
With thanks -
