Amy Valuck Glass Art Traditional and experimental techniques in stained glass. Available for commissions and restoration. Studio hours by appointment. www.amyvaluck.com

I launched my stained glass studio in the fall of 2014, after sixteen years of working in historical stained glass restoration and conservation. As a designer, I enjoy bridging the gap between the old and the new, bringing the traditional style elements and techniques into a new modern context. I welcome inquiries into new commission work or restoration, and provide several open studio events and public shows throughout the year.

With a lot of sadness, I had planned a day to come pick up my work as the gallery closed. Only a few hours before my trip I heard the great news that a new owner will step in! Welcome and congratulations to new owner Tatiana Bell! I look forward to continuing to work with the Palette and the Page in its next chapter!

I am excited to announce that I will be taking over The Palette & The Page, LLC ! My name is Tatiana Bell, I'm an artist and educator and am excited to continue the legacy of this wonderful place going! We are currently in the process of transitioning and will be open this Thursday and Friday but closed on Saturday March 30th for the Holiday weekend. We are lookin forward to a grand opening the first Friday in May, just in time for the Cinco de Mayo festivities! Next Saturday will be a soft reopening so come on by and say hi!

I’m very sorry to share the news that the Palette and the Page will be closing by the end of the month. I have enjoyed showing my work there over the past several years, and am very sad to see them go. If you’re in the area, please try to stop in soon for one last visit 🩷💚

This poor lampshade almost met a disastrous fate! My customer told me she noticed the shade wasn’t sitting properly on its base, so she wisely removed it and brought it to the studio. I discovered that the brass cap had never been properly soldered on, and was only hanging on by a couple of tiny solder joints along the outside of the cap. It just popped right off!
I was able to clean up the metal and coat it with solder before reattaching, to create a more secure bond. I also added armature wires in several places for added support. Now it’s ready to go back into use for years to come!

Here is a look at part of the documentation process for conservation and restoration projects. Rubbings are made for each panel: two for studio use and an archival version for the client's records. Using large sheets of transfer paper allows us to make multiple copies at the same time. In addition to having a full-size image of the lead lines, we are able to record important information about measurements and the condition of the window for future reference as the work continues.

Here’s one of my pieces currently available at The Palette & The Page, LLC in Elkton, MD. This is one of my favorite varieties of the calathea plant, and was a lot of fun to translate into glass.

Calathea Medallion is made with the traditional stained glass painting technique; each piece is kiln fired multiple times. This framed piece is 10.5"x10.5" and comes with hanging chain. It is comprised of stained glass, vitreous paint, enamels and lead. Amy Valuck is a master at stained glass and we are happy to have her as one of our artists !

A new piece for this year’s American Glass Guild auction. I used vitreous paint, enamels, and silver stain. The panel uses transparent and opalescent glass plated together for extra-rich colors. Inspired by the imagery from a William Morris wallpaper design, and the construction technique from an early 20th century Lamb studios window.

Here is a little summer throwback to interrupt the cold, dreary weather. I loved working on this window for a local arts and crafts style home. My clients were a horticulturist and landscape architect, and wanted a very specific plant for the design, to match the vine growing just outside the door. We took a few liberties with the flower color and proportion, but I made sure to include the specific butterfly that prefers the plant. The is kiln fired glass paint and enamel. If you zoom in near the top, you might also spot a caterpillar and some tiny orange eggs. 👀 The beautiful green in the leaves is from and the flowers were fused glass elements I made with (the background is Bullseye too-single rolled clear)
