Yesterday, emergency crews responded to a hazardous materials incident at the intersection of West Chester Road and Barrett Road, after a truck spilled approximately 275 gallons of sulfuric acid.

Thanks to the quick actions of the West Chester Fire Department, West Chester Community Services Department, and our partner agencies, the spill was rapidly contained to the roadway and a single nearby yard. Most importantly, crews successfully prevented the material from reaching a nearby creek and impacting local waterways.

Under the direction of the Ohio EPA, cleanup and remediation efforts were completed, and the affected area has been fully restored to its previous condition. There is no danger to nearby homes, businesses, or the environment.

We would like to thank all of the first responders, public works personnel, environmental contractors, partner agencies, and residents for their patience and cooperation throughout the incident.

West Chester and Dimmick roads will have crack seal applications starting next week. Lane closures and flaggers will be necessary to manage traffic. Motorists can expect some delays.

Additionally, our contractor, Strawser Construction, will be posting for no parking on some residential streets. The purpose of the application is to seal those cracks that are a quarter inch and larger that allow water to seep into the pavement and create the opportunity for potholes and other pavement defects.

Residents can visit our Annual Capital Projects link to see affected areas highlighted in purple. https://www.westchesteroh.org/government/community-services/roads

We apologize in advance for any minor inconvenience this may cause.

A local man has two West Chester police officers to thank after he survived a scary situation on May 4. The man called 911 dispatch, reporting he believed he was experiencing a heart attack while driving and was heading to the hospital.

Dispatch encouraged him to pull over, but he urgently continued driving to save himself. The operator determined his location and alerted Officers Zzachary Clark and Logan Fuller, who found the man crashed and unconscious in a culvert near a BMW dealership. They extracted him and began CPR until the West Chester Fire Department could reach the scene.

The emergency physician at West Chester Hospital told fire officials that it was unlikely he would have survived if not for the fast action of Officers Clark and Fuller. Ironically, the two officers had just attended a CPR class at the fire department the day before.

Police Chief Brian Rebholz and Assistant Chief Bruce Hoffbauer presented the officers with the Lifesaving Award earlier this week in front dozens of first responders from the police and fire departments. Congratulations, Officers Clark and Fuller, and thank you for putting your training into action without hesitation!
