So here is an update Nala gave birth yesterday morning. Mikayla could not take her eyes off of Nala and the baby. She stayed at the gate and her fence line all day yesterday acting as a sentry!!! I just love the loyalty in these beautiful beings. Let’s hear it from Mikayla and Nala and Mustang’s in general.! Photo of Mikayla standing at the fence line in comments below

I was out exercising, Jolie and Simba and Liam came to the Fence to say hello. These two are just the cutest boys on the planet. Their lives are brought to you by all our supporters. It’s such an honor to watch them grow. We will be having an open farm day on June 14 from 10 AM to 2 PM. It will be an adoption event garage sale open farm day with tour put it on your schedule. Come meet these two goobers!!!!!

I know I say this every year, but if horses were so bad for the environment, why would this property be so beautiful and lush and green? If we could just let the ecosystems rebuild regenerate wouldn’t our environment be a better place? It is quite odd to me that the same men who believe that there is a God in charge also believe that they need to control the environment.. It is my opinion that the more humans get involved with ecosystems the more destruction there is.

Yesterday gave us a beautiful reminder of just how deeply connected, protective, and truly sentient these incredible beings are.
Our very pregnant Eagle Mountain mare, somehow managed to get out and join the main herd. Our working theory?baby Elena (our resident locksmith) likely staged a jailbreak!
What happened next was amazing to watch:
Mikayla the Protector: The moment Nala was out, Mikayla stepped into full “fierce mother protector” mode. Knowing how vulnerable Nala is right now, Mikayla kept her own body between the main herd and the heavily pregnant mare, refusing to let anyone get too close.
Elena the Sentry: While her mom held the line, baby Elena circled the perimeter, acting as a big, mighty shield to keep the rest of the herd at a safe distance. The amount of emotion I felt watching this It’s hard to put into words.
Separating them without stressing everyone out was a tough, delicate task. But heroes show up right when you need them! Thanks to an amazing volunteer who arrived at the exact perfect moment, we successfully guided Nala back over and safely into her birthing area.
The Aftermath
Mikayla was still worried about her friend , so we decided to let her and Elena stay in the adjoining paddock for the night.
They didn’t leave Nala’s side. Mikayla and Elena spent the whole night right against the fence line, keeping an eagle eye on their friend. As for Nala? You could just see it in her—she felt completely safe, watched over, and loved.
Horses don’t just react on instinct; they form deep friendships, show fierce loyalty, and look out for each other when it matters most. We are so grateful for our vigilant mares, our wonderful volunteer, and the beautiful reminder of why we do this work. 🌾
