The West Hartford Police Department announced that it is accepting applications for the Citizen's Academy Behind the Badge. The academy will run from September 30 to November 118, with classes held every Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at West Hartford Police Headquarters, 103 Raymond Road. The program is specially designed to introduce the community to the reality of a career in law enforcement. The 8-week semester will cover a variety of topics presented by the sworn and civilian members of the West Hartford Police Department. Each class topic introduces residents to the procedures, practices, problems, concerns, and challenges law enforcement officers face in performing their duties. Our goal is to help residents become more informed about the services and resources our department offers.
Topics include, but are not limited to, the following: Communications/911, Recruitment & Training, Field Training Officer Program, ESU/Emergency Response, Patrol Procedures, Crime Scene Investigation, Polygraph, Use of Force, Defensive Tactics, K-9 Unit, Terrorism, Home Security/Fraud, Fi****ms Automated Training System, DUI, Sexual Offenders, and a 4-hour patrol ride-along.
Applicants must be 21 or older and will be asked to complete a background check. Click here to complete the application.
