US oil consumption peaked a decade ago. Here the blog The Oil Drum sorts out the changes. Improved vehicle mileage appears to account for about 7% of the difference from trend. Half of the difference is in the "all other", ie industrial, uses category. That is-- heavy industrial users are not buying as much oil.http://www.theoildrum.com/node/9811
