I’m continuing a simple Friday series—sharing small moments of care.

This week’s Moment of Care is admittedly a little centenarian-inspired.

We tend to save celebration for the big things—the birthdays, anniversaries, accomplishments and milestones.

But there’s plenty worth noticing in between.

A good day.
A small win.
Someone you love around the table.
Another year of simply being here.

Over the past several weeks, I’ve had conversations with families and several different hospice professionals and agencies—and it’s been a good reminder of how much there is to understand before a family ever has to make a decision.

When might hospice be appropriate? Is it only for certain diagnoses? What does it mean to look at the whole person instead of one medical condition? And if hospice is appropriate, how do you know which agency is the right fit?

One thing I hope families take away from this week’s Between the Appointments:
You don’t have to wait until someone’s final days to start asking questions.

Having the conversation doesn’t mean you’ve made the decision. It simply means you’re better informed about the choices available to you and the people you love. 💚💛

Next week, I’ll be speaking with a local 55+ community about something I believe deeply: thoughtful planning today creates more choices tomorrow.

We’ll be talking about the practical pieces that can make aging feel a little less overwhelming — important conversations, legal documents, Medicare, community resources, and knowing what questions to ask before you need the answers.

Sometimes planning isn’t about having everything figured out.

It’s simply about knowing where to start.

What an incredible room to be in today.

Celebrating Berks County residents who have reached 100 years and beyond — and the lives, families, memories, changes, challenges, and joy contained within those years.

I especially enjoyed reading their autobiographies and their answers about the secret to living 100 years. More than one shared some version of:
“Only the good die young.” 😂

Clearly, a sense of humor may belong on the longevity list.

There is something pretty special about being surrounded by a century of stories. Grateful to be here celebrating them today.

Hospice is a conversation, not a countdown.

Too often, families hear the word hospice and think it means giving up—or that it’s only something to consider in the final days of life.

This week’s Care Conversation explores why learning about hospice earlier can create space to ask questions, understand your options, and consider what support might look like for both the person and their family.

And an important reminder: not every hospice agency offers the same services and supports. It’s okay to ask what makes one different from another.

Some days are a reminder that aging and family life rarely follow a predictable path.

A conversation on Friday can look completely different by Monday. A hospitalization can change the questions overnight. A responsibility that seemed manageable can suddenly feel incredibly heavy.

Today reminded me why I value the relationships I build with the seniors and families I support.

When something changes, I already know the people involved. I know what matters to them. I know some of the history, the dynamics, the priorities and the conversations we've already had.

We don't have to start at the beginning.

We can simply begin with, “Okay. What do we need now?”

And sometimes, that continuity is one of the most valuable parts of having someone alongside you. 💚💛

I’m continuing a simple Friday series—sharing small moments of care.

This one was inspired by a lovely interaction I had this week.

Sometimes, when the intensity of caregiving changes, there can slowly be room for something else again—an old interest, a new hobby, or simply time to wonder, What might I enjoy?

For that person, something new is learning to play guitar. 🎸

There’s a quiet courage in discovering who we are in a new season of life.

In the spirit of back-to-school week, learning isn’t just for kids. There is always room to stay curious, try something new, and discover a little more of ourselves along the way. 💚💛
