Today we welcomed a group of students from American Heritage School as part of their Summer Leadership and Community Service class.

Nine middle and high school students and two teachers joined us to sort donations, learn about our work, and see the impact of community support firsthand.

As part of their class, each student is planning their own community service project, and we’re excited to see how they’ll make an impact.

🧸We want to give a heartfelt thank you to Rita for an incredibly generous donation of diapers, wipes, baby soap, water, bottles, car seats, deodorant, shoes, and pajamas. Your kindness meets real, everyday needs for so many children.

Our final expansion into another county took place when Diana Gelfand, a former foster and adoptive mom, and Katy Wood, a champion and supporter of so many in the foster care community, approached us about launching Hands and Feet in Broward County.

While we weren't exactly sure how we would expand into another county when we were still operating out of our garages and two small storage units, we trusted that a desire to serve and a passion for helping children would be all we needed.

For years, Diana and Katy selflessly served Broward County out of two storage units, a patio, and a garage, all while volunteering their time. They built relationships, rallied support, and ensured children entering foster care received the essentials they needed during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

While Broward looks starkly different today than it did four years ago, it was through Diana and Katy that the families and children of Broward were first able to receive our services. For that, we will forever be grateful.

Did you join our 5 year anniversary webinar today?!

If you missed it we shared the journey of how we got to where we are today, the programs we currently operate, the partners that helped us get to this point, and the vision for the future. It is wild to think that 5 years ago this month a grassroots idea has formed into serving over 13,000 children historically, 9 staff members, 3 operating locations, a new administrative operating space, and thousands of deliveries made to the doorsteps of families in need.

Of course we didn't get there without a lot of blood, sweat, and tons of tears but we made it and my goodness does it feel like a huge accomplishment! Mere weeks after opening our doors in Palm Beach a stranger whom we never had never met sent us an email that unbeknownst to us would change the trajectory of the way Hands and Feet was formed.

Kristin West, a foster mom at the time, reached out with a vision to bring Hands and Feet to the Treasure Coast. While expanding into a new county just weeks after launching may have seemed wild, we realized if we didn't know what we were doing then maybe we could both not know what we were doing together!

Just two weeks after THAF launched, Treasure Coast opened. Over the next 2.5 years, Kristin's dedication helped build the foundation of what Hands and Feet Treasure Coast is today. Though she now serves foster families through another incredible organization, she will always be part of our founding story, and we are so grateful for her impact.

12 years old and left home alone to care for his 3 siblings.

Severe abuse, neglect, and watching his mother become a victim of domestic violence is how he has spent most of his childhood.

All 4 children left home alone, no clean clothing, no food other than animal crackers to survive on--the baby starving from lack of formula and baby food.

A teacher who finally called the report in when they noticed he wore the same clothing every day and shoes 2 sizes too big--even though it was all he had.

Relatives stepped up to care for all 4 siblings but their needs are high and we don't have all the items in stock. We are raising $175 to meet these needs urgently. Anything above $175 raised will be used to meet future needs of the children we serve.

After being open less than 3 weeks we realized the likelihood we were going to have enough to cover the needs of every child who put in a request was slim.

Our solution? Create a program called “Wishlisters” allowing the community to purchase items directly for a child and have it shipped right to them. Within a month this program became our backbone.

251 wishlists bought out.
459 current “Wishlisters”.
$115,000+ purchased.

It’s wild how in 5 years the packages arriving on the doorsteps of children all across South Florida still continue as much as they do today! 💜

As we approach our 5 year anniversary this month we thought we would take you down memory lane these last 5 years...I mean honestly it's been a wild ride!

July 1, 2021
The day where it all began... A 17 year old pregnant mom with her 1 year old son and 13 year old sister were human trafficked and left in a parking lot. All 3 children were placed in a foster home and we got the text at 11:45 at night for our very FIRST delivery!

We ran to CVS to gather what we could, dug through bins in our back closet, and made our delivery at almost 1 AM. The next day we jumped on Facebook, as 2 sisters wanting to make a difference, and rallied the community, who began showing up immediately.

5 years and over 3000 deliveries later it is a reminder that one moment truly can change everything! On June 10th at 12 pm we will be hosting a webinar sharing our history and vision for the future! Register at the link below!
