HOUSE BUDGET WATCH: Rep. Emily Gregory points out that lawmakers are being asked to approve a state budget while the Governor pushes eliminating homestead taxes for most Floridians.

Gregory: “We are being asked to adopt this budget before understanding the full impact of those changes, or how local governments will be expected to absorb them.”

In the $114.5 billion state budget passed for the 2026–2027 fiscal year, there are many ways the Florida Legislature failed to address the affordability crisis facing Florida families. Across our state, families continue to struggle with rising housing and healthcare costs, skyrocketing insurance premiums, and ongoing challenges in public education.

But when there are wins, we should celebrate them.

One of the biggest victories in this year’s budget is for our public safety officers. Florida’s firefighters, law enforcement officers, and corrections officers will receive a well-deserved 4% salary increase and a 1.5% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for retirees.

These men and women put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe, and they deserve our gratitude and support.

See my full statement on the budget in the comments.

Honored our fallen brothers and sisters this morning at the Memorial Day service. I was moved by remarks by Marine veteran and social worker Keith Shampaner on unity and loving each other regardless of our differences. Every day, let us endeavor to earn their greatest sacrifice. God bless America. 🇺🇸

“From these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause to which they gave the last full measure of their devotion. That is our responsibility now, to live worthy of their sacrifice. To protect the freedoms that they defended abroad, protect them here. To strengthen the nation they love. To care for each other. To leave the country better than we found it. To remember them not only today but everyday. We will never forget you. And if there was one final message the fallen might leave us with, perhaps it is this: Earn this. Earn the freedoms you enjoy. Earn the opportunities you’ve been given. Earn the sacrifices that made this day possible. Live a life worthy of those that never got to live theirs.”

Today we pause to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Their courage, selflessness, and dedication to protecting our freedoms will never be forgotten. As we gather with family and loved ones, let us reflect on the true meaning of this day and express our deepest gratitude to those who gave everything for our country. May we always remember and honor our fallen heroes.

Home of the free, because of the brave. 🇺🇸

Her father FaceTimed from Honduras so he could be part of her big day. 💔 Sophia has managed the last year with strength, grace, and determination.

Sophia, we are beyond proud of you and cannot wait to see all that your future holds. ❤️
