Mayor Shelley Brindle

Mayor Shelley Brindle Former Mayor of Westfield, NJ.

As an accomplished C-suite executive, civic leader, and independent board director, I bring over 25 years of experience leading transformation, strategic growth, and delivering measurable results across both the private and public sectors. As Mayor of Westfield, New Jersey (2018–2025), I applied private-sector rigor to local government, delivering record-low tax increases, historic high fiscal sur

pluses, and leading a $400 million downtown redevelopment through a groundbreaking public-private partnership. I prioritized investments in automation, smart infrastructure, inclusive housing, and long-term sustainability initiatives, earning statewide recognition and multiple awards for planning and innovation. I also played a key role in advancing policy at the state level through executive leadership positions with the NJ League of Municipalities and the NJ Conference of Mayors. Prior to public service, I spent over two decades at HBO, where I served as Executive Vice President and a member of the CEO’s executive team. I led HBO’s $4.5 billion domestic subscription business, negotiated more than $10 billion in long-term distribution deals with major media and tech partners, and launched HBO’s first streaming services. I currently serve on several corporate and nonprofit boards and as an advisor to early-stage venture and leadership programs at several universities. I bring a unique blend of executive, civic, and boardroom experience, and thrive at the intersection of business and civic leadership where innovation, financial discipline, and collaborative governance are essential to building sustainable organizations and resilient communities. I’m currently exploring executive leadership and board opportunities that align with my passion for economic development, public transit, housing policy, digital innovation, and mission-driven growth.

𝐖𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐌 𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆: 𝐃𝐄𝐂𝐄𝐌𝐁𝐄𝐑 𝟐𝟔-𝟐𝟕

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning and Hazardous Weather Outlook for our area, from 4:00 PM Friday through 1:00 PM Saturday. The current forecast anticipates 6-9 inches of snow.

The Police Department, Fire Department, and Department of Public Works continue to monitor the storm, and salting of main roadways is expected to begin in advance of the snow. The DPW will begin plowing once three inches of snow have accumulated.

𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗺. 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗢𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟳𝟬 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗵𝗶𝗯𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻 𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗹 𝘀𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗳𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗱𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗱. Removing cars allows plowing crews to operate efficiently as they cover 380 municipal roadways in each pass through Town. The Westfield Police Department will issue tickets for violations of this ordinance. Under these circumstances, the shoveling or blowing of snow into a plowed street is also banned.

Downtown residents without driveways may park in Lot 4 behind Baron's. Residents in other areas without driveways or the ability to park off-street may park in the Memorial Pool lot, on the tennis court side. Cars must be removed no later than 1:00 PM on Saturday to allow Public Works to plow these lots.

In addition, the following locations are subject to alternate side of the street parking after three inches of snow have fallen, and vehicles need to park on the side of the street with even house numbers (except for Ross Place).
🔹400 & 500 block of Downer Street
🔹400 block of First Street
🔹Livingston Street
🔹Cacciola Place
🔹Cowperthwaite Place between Elm and Clark Streets
🔹300 & 400 block of Lenox Avenue
🔹200 block of St. Paul Street
🔹Entire length of Ross Place (park on the side with odd numbers only)

Residents are reminded that, in addition to cars, all items should be cleared from the roadways and curbs to help facilitate efficient plowing.

Curbside recycling for Zone 10 (originally planned for Saturday, December 27, as part of the holiday week schedule) will be picked up on Monday, December 29, along with Zone 1.

𝐌𝐀𝐘𝐎𝐑’𝐒 𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄: 𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝐄𝐍𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐃𝐄𝐂𝐄𝐌𝐁𝐄𝐑 𝟏𝟗, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓

In early 2019, I began sending out this weekly update each Friday as part of my commitment to keep our residents informed of key issues, community events, and ways to get involved. 354 Fridays and more than 11,000 email subscribers later, this is the final update of my term – and I’d like to use it to thank each of you for your continued engagement, ideas, questions, and, above all, a shared love for this town that we are all so fortunate to call home. As I said at the last Town Council meeting, I’m so proud of what we’ve done together, delivering unprecedented and historic progress and building a foundation that will benefit Westfield for decades.

What an exciting time for our town as I pass the leadership baton to Mayor-elect Berman and Councilmembers-elect Adwar, Venkataraman, Gilman, and Pe**er! Please follow Mayor-elect Berman on his campaign page (Berman for Mayor), which will transition to his official mayoral page in the new year. The incoming administration will communicate the details of their upcoming swearing-in ceremony as part of the Town’s Annual Organization Meeting on Tuesday, January 6, at 7:00PM. Thank you in advance to the many volunteers who will be appointed by Mayor-elect Berman’s team to serve on the various boards and commissions for 2026. Our town has always been exceedingly well-served by the talent and dedication of our residents.

I wish the very best to the incoming Mayor and Councilmembers, as well as to returning Councilmembers Saunders, Armento, Domogala, and Kiefer, as they embark on creating a promising new chapter for Westfield.

As for me, I have a to-do list to complete in Town Hall between now and the end of the year. And as a final point of departure, we’ll add my official portrait to the wall of mayors in the building – with a female finally joining 33 male predecessors. I hope I am the first of many.

Thank you for the enormous privilege of the last eight years. I wish you all a joyous holiday season, and look forward to seeing you around town!

I could not be prouder that resolving our Affordable Housing obligations was my final legislative act…protecting our community from future litigation while doing our part to address the state’s housing crisis.

Many thanks to each member of the Town Council for their full bipartisan support, which has been a model of collaboration to get important work done. 👏👏

Westfield settles legal challenges to its affordable housing plan, blocks builders’ remedy suits & boosts trust fund support.
