City of Westlake Mayor's Armed Forces Commission Honors W.C. "Skeeter" Hayes as 2026 Citizen of the Year

The City of Westlake Mayor's Armed Forces Commission welcomed a crowd to the Horseshoe Casino in Westlake last night for its Annual Citizen of the Year Banquet, an event dedicated to raising funds for the Armed Forces Commission and recognizing an individual who has gone above and beyond in service to the Westlake community.

This year's prestigious Citizen of the Year Award was presented to W.C. "Skeeter" Hayes, whose longstanding dedication, generosity, and commitment to the people of Westlake made him a deserving recipient of the honor.

Mayor Hal McMillin praised Hayes for his unwavering support of the community. "This award is well deserved," said Mayor McMillin. "Skeeter has Westlake and its people in his heart."

The annual banquet serves as one of the Armed Forces Commission's primary fundraising efforts, helping support its mission and programs throughout the year. While we’re still finalizing the numbers from the event, preliminary estimates show that well over $100,000 was raised through the generosity of attendees and supporters.

Mayor McMillin expressed his gratitude to everyone who participated in the evening's success.
"I want to thank all of those who attended and opened their wallets for this worthy cause. The continued support of our community makes it possible for the Armed Forces Commission to carry out its important work."

The City of Westlake congratulates W.C. "Skeeter" Hayes on being named the 2026 Citizen of the Year and extends its appreciation to all who helped make the evening a tremendous success.

Once Was Inc is inviting Veterans and thier spouses to Meal of Remembrance in observance of Salute to Veterans Patients Week. The Director of Operations-Louisiana Disability Benefitsof America Mrs. Mandy Thibodeaux will be the guest speaker and will be prepared to help veterans access their earned benefits on site
