🌻 Celebrate Juneteenth With Us in Westminster 🌻

Juneteenth is an opportunity to reflect on our nation's history, celebrate freedom, and honor the generations of Black Americans whose contributions helped build our communities.

I invite you to join us on Thursday, June 18 at 11:30 AM at West Oak Middle School for Westminster's Juneteenth Celebration.

As part of this year's celebration, we are creating a community display highlighting the history of Black families in Oconee County. We are still searching for photographs that tell those stories, including:

School memories
Family gatherings
Church events
Workplace photos
Holiday celebrations
Community involvement

If you have photos to share, we would love to hear from you. Submit them to [email protected]

We are also accepting donations to help ensure this remains a free event for all members of our community. Checks may be made payable to the City of Westminster.

I am proud to endorse Juni Lynch for South Carolina House District 1.

As someone who has spent years serving the Westminster community and working to open doors for future generations, I recognize the importance of leadership that is rooted in service, compassion, and action. Juni represents that kind of leadership.

Juni has consistently shown up for our community. This is not for recognition, but because she genuinely cares about the people. Whether through her volunteer work with local nonprofits, helping organize resources for seniors and families, supporting local small businesses, advocating for rural communities, or simply connecting neighbors with the help they need, Juni has proven that community service is not just a campaign message for her but it is who she is.

I have watched Juni work to support the Westminster Senior Center, raise money for food banks and school supplies, work with community programs, fill blessing boxes, mentor people in our community and share books through Little Free Libraries.

As Westminster’s first Black city council member, I understand how important it is to continue building a future where leadership reflects courage, compassion, and community involvement. I believe Juni will work hard for the people of District 1 and represent this community with integrity.

I proudly support Juni Lynch for South Carolina House District 1 and encourage others to do the same.

Who is Juni Lynch, Anyways?

How do you handle disagreement and criticism?

The photo may be a bit misleading- the answer isn't whoopins 😆

I don’t believe leadership means surrounding yourself with people who always agree with you. If you’re serving the public, you’re going to hear different opinions, frustrations, and criticism. That comes with the job.

I try to listen first. Sometimes criticism is unfair, but sometimes there’s truth in it, and if we stop listening, we stop growing. I’d rather have honest conversations than live in an echo chamber.

I also believe people deserve leaders who can disagree without becoming hateful or dismissive. You can stand firm on your values while still treating people with respect. Our community is too small and too interconnected to treat neighbors like enemies over politics or differing opinions.

At the end of the day, I focus on solutions, accountability, and facts. I’m not running to be the loudest person in the room. I’m running to help solve problems, ask hard questions, and make sure people feel heard; even when we don’t agree.
