What's the Buzz on Native Bees? 🐝 🌸🌹

With 435 native species of bee living right here in Pennsylvania, it is impossible to cover every type of bee in a single post.

However, here are some common bees you may see in your backyard.
🐝 European Honey Bee: NOT NATIVE.
🐝 Bumble Bee: Native, lives in colonies of around 50 underground. 18 different species in PA.
🐝 Metallic Green Sweat Bee: Solitary, ground dwelling bee.
🐝 Carpenter Bee: Bumblebee look-alike but with a shiny abdomen. Although they can be a pest with outdoor woodwork, they prefer to lay their eggs in old logs.
🐝 Mason Bee: Emerge in the spring, and lay their eggs in hollow stems or tubes. Pollinate more effectively than honeybees.
🐝Leafcutter Bee: Similar to the green bee, but slightly larger with the males sporting a striped abdomen.

For McCandless families, Vestal Park is the backdrop for summer memories, championship dreams, and concession stand favorites.

This season, Ingomar Franklin Park Little League added another memory to that list.

“Seeing the smiles on the boys’ faces was just unbelievable,” said Ingomar coach and board member Eddie Dubis. “They were totally starstruck, in awe of what happened.”

Here’s to a season filled with many more unforgettable moments at Vestal Park! ⚾

Super awesome to have Paul Skenes visit Vestal Park in McCandless. Now that's a core memory for those Little Leaguers!⚾️

🚧 The Town of McCandless 2026 Summer Paving Program is on the way!

The streets listed in the graphic are scheduled for paving this summer as part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving local roads.

Residents who live on affected streets will receive a letter with additional details before work begins. Please note that paving schedules are weather dependent and may change as needed throughout the season.
