Wharton Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), a nonprofit industrial development corporation, was formed in March 1998 with the passage of the one half cent sales tax increase. WEDC functions under the City of Wharton, Texas, pursuant to Article 5190.6, Section 4B of The Development Corporation Act of 1979, as amended. Expenditures of the tax revenues are intended for the development of commerc

What a busy and productive day in Economic Development!!

We kicked things off with a roundtable hosted by Workforce Solutions Gulf Coast Wharton, joined by members of the Wharton Lions Club. The conversation focused on impactful programs like WFS Youth Initiatives, Texas Vocational Rehabilitation, and Summer Earn and Lean--all aimed at strengthening our workforce and supporting future talent.

Later, we launched our first educational initiative at Wharton Elementary School, where we introduced 5th grade students to career exploration opportunities. It's exciting to help spark curiosity and begin building pathways for the next generation!
