I haven’t posted much related to the world of politics/government in recent years, and for good reason. I do though want to shout out this photo, posted by NYS Assemblymember Chris Burdick. The photo is from a community meeting in North White Plains, and just like me many times in the past, Chris is there, as are a few Town of North Castle officials. But also, if you look in the background of the photo, there is George Latimer, Westchester County Executive.
On a Saturday morning at 10am, George doesn’t have to be at a neighborhood meeting with about a dozen area residents. North White Plains, like the whole Town of North Castle it’s a part of, isn’t in the NY 16th Congressional District, where George is running this year. He isn’t at this meeting for political reasons. He isn’t there to toot his own horn. He’s there because he takes his job as an elected official seriously.
George Latimer represents everyone in that room, and cares what they have to say. He wants government to be there to solve problems. And that’s why we should want people like George Latimer to be our Representative.
It was good to meet with residents of North White Plains at their monthly meeting over the weekend at the North White Plains Community Center. I updated the gathering on the status of negotiations on the 2024-2025 NYS budget, work to increase funding for maintenance, repair and paving of state roads in the Hudson Valley (including Route 128), and other topics.
My thanks to North Castle Town Board member Barbara DiGiacinto for inviting me and to Deputy Supervisor Jose Berra for being on hand.
