Early this morning, Captain Kostyak and Firefighter Roeming headed west in Brush 18 to assist with the Ross Fire in Palo Pinto County.

They deployed alongside Benbrook Fire Department as part of a strike team responding to a wildfire that had already grown to 50 thousand acres.

Local 5197 is proud to see our members stepping up when help is needed. We wish them and everyone working the Ross Fire a safe assignment and safe return home.

We stand behind our brothers and sisters at Fort Worth Professional Firefighters Local 440

FORT WORTH, TX —
The Fort Worth Professional Fire Fighters Association has declared impasse with the City of Fort Worth over critical safety issues, following nine months and 15 bargaining sessions in which the association says the city failed to negotiate in good faith.

Fort Worth is now the second-fastest-growing city in the United States, adding hundreds of thousands of residents in recent years and driving up demand for emergency services. Fire fighters are calling on the city to fund the critical staffing, equipment, retention and recruitment needed to keep the department responding safely and effectively. The city's recent proposals to reduce fire fighter staffing and response would place residents and businesses at risk.

Throughout the process, Local 440's bargaining team has worked to reach an agreement that benefits both the city and its fire fighters. The City’s proposals have repeatedly walked back progress made in prior sessions, including efforts to improve wages, benefits and working conditions.

It has long been the city's practice to balance a poorly managed budget on the backs of its employees, and ultimately, it is the citizens who pay the price.

"Fort Worth is growing. Our fire department must grow with it," said Local 440 President Zac Shaffer. "This is about making sure our fire department has the training, personnel and resources to protect America's second-fastest-growing city. We have been committed to working with city management to reach a fair agreement, but the city manager needs to sharpen his pencil and make choices that support the men and women who protect this city, and that ensure every family gets the emergency response they deserve when they call for help."

"Every time Fort Worth loses an experienced fire fighter to another department, our community loses valuable experience, and taxpayers lose the investment they made in recruiting and training that individual," Shaffer said. "Fort Worth should be a destination for professional fire fighters, not a steppingstone to another city."

"We will not stand for choices that reduce response to the residents and businesses of Fort Worth. Our bargaining team remains ready to return to the table the moment the city is prepared to negotiate with the same good faith our members have shown throughout this process."

The Fort Worth Professional Fire Fighters Association, IAFF Local 440, represents the professional fire fighters and paramedics of the Fort Worth Fire Department. Local 440 is committed to protecting the health, safety and welfare of Fort Worth's fire fighters and the residents and businesses they serve.

Local 5197 was proud to present a $1,000 sponsorship check to the White Settlement Bears - 14u ALL STAR Team as they continue their run toward the PONY League World Series.

The presentation was held at the White Settlement Fire Department, members of Local 5197 and the on duty crew had the opportunity to recognize the players and coaches. Each player was also presented with a Local 5197 challenge coin as a reminder that their hard work, dedication, and representation of our community have not gone unnoticed.

Local 5197 was not expecting anything in return, but the team surprised us by presenting the association with a championship medal from their most recent tournament and a championship ring. We are extremely grateful for these gifts and will display them with pride. However, watching these young men play together, enjoy the game, and proudly represent the City of White Settlement is more than enough for us.

The team currently holds a 9-1 tournament record and will travel to Youngsville, Louisiana, from July 22 through July 27 for the next step in their run toward the PONY League World Series in Washington, Pennsylvania.

The PONY League World Series brings together 10 qualifying teams from across the United States and around the world, making this an incredible opportunity for these players to represent White Settlement on an international stage.

Local 5197 is proud to stand behind the White Settlement 14U All-Stars. Continue playing hard, supporting one another, and enjoying every moment of the journey.

White Settlement is behind you.
