This morning at Spudder Park, we had a line of six people waiting for showers before we were even fully set up.

That moment says a lot.

One part of this work people don’t always see is the constant balancing act behind the scenes: Water levels. Supplies. Volunteers. Laundry. Fuel. Scheduling. Weather. Funding. Safety. Timing.

And honestly? Sometimes it feels messy.

But mornings like today remind us why we keep showing up.

People aren’t waiting in line for luxury. They’re waiting for a hot shower. Clean clothes. A chance to feel human again before work, appointments, job interviews, or simply facing another day.

So we adapt.
We troubleshoot.
We rebuild plans on the fly.
And we keep going.

Our approach may not always look polished, but it works because it starts with people and responds to real human need in real time.

Today reminded us again:
The need is real.
And so is the dignity of every person standing in that line.

THANK YOU to everyone who has reached out following the news story yesterday, Feb 5th. We want to clarify the timeline of incidents for you.

Our Honda EU3200i generator was stolen in the night between January 21-22, just ahead of the severe winter storm. We filed a police report on the 22nd and posted on social about the incident. The winter storm and needed repairs meant that we were not able to provide service for two full weeks.

We reached out to the news outlet the next week, but their focus on winter storms took (understandable) precedence. Then, our contact at the station was ill for a time.

During the storm, we reached out to multiple Marketplace and Craigslist sellers to find a generator for $300 or less which would have capacity to run the shower unit. We were offered a Westinghouse Gen5300DFcv from a local Wichita Falls supporter in that price range. We picked up the offered generator on Tuesday, Feb 3rd.

Following repairs, we picked up the shower unit on Wednesday, Feb 4th and installed our new hot water heater and tested the generator. Both worked. We were hosted at an event on the same day and we're able to fulfill that commitment.

The news station also followed up with us on the 4th of February, still interested in covering the theft. We scheduled for them to visit us at our Spudder Park service.

Yesterday, Feb 5th, was our first day back in service at Spudder Park. We will not let theft of equipment or winter weather keep us down!
