Meet senior Sophia Rogers, who is joining the Derby Public Schools Communications Department as a Work-Based Learning student intern for the 2026-2027 school year!

Through this opportunity, Sophia will gain hands-on experience in communications while helping create content for the high school's website and social media. She’ll bring a student perspective to the stories, activities and experiences that make up life at DHS.

We’re excited to have her on the team and look forward to seeing her creativity and student voice come to life throughout the year!

Please join us in congratulating sophomore Kenley Shay. At the KAY Leadership Camp this past summer, she was chosen to represent her color team as the "Team Wisher" at the KLC Campfire Program. She was identified for this honor because of the outstanding leadership and teamwork she displayed during the team activities at KLC. Kenley's outstanding teamwork truly showed what it means to be “Wild About Service.”

To kick off the year, students in Dylan Brown’s Human Body Systems class are exploring how the body’s systems work together.

Students are assigned one of nine body systems to research and become the class “experts” on. Each group creates a life-size body outline, draws and labels the major organs, and explains the overall function of their body system. They then share what they learned with their classmates during a gallery walk.

Next, students explore how their system interacts with five other body systems. Using string, they physically connect the systems to create a visual showing just how interconnected the human body really is and how much each system relies on the others to keep the body functioning properly.
