The City of Gardner will not host a citywide cleanup in 2022. In recent years, there has been very little interest from solid waste haulers to bid on the contract, and the price of conducting the program increased on a per ton basis for items collected from $120 in 2016 to $425 in 2021. Despite our efforts this year to bring those costs closer to the per ton bid price of $200 by increasing the number of items allowed per residence, we were unable to reach an agreement that aligned the financial interests of the city with those of the single bidder. Therefore, after much discussion, the City Council determined it would not be fiscally responsible or a good use of taxpayer dollars to move forward with the cleanup. The City Council has asked staff to continue looking for innovative ways to potentially provide this service in the future.

I highly suggest you consider!
