🚧 Douglas Avenue Pilot 🚧

Don't forget! There is construction for a pilot project along Douglas from Washington to Grove. The pilot aims to slow down cars, improve safety for pedestrians and students, and reduce crashes.

Changes for the pilot include converting to a three-lane roadway configuration with on-street bicycle lanes, curb extensions, parking modifications, and enhanced crosswalks.

➡️ City staff will collect pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicular counts; monitor intersections to determine whether traffic signal timing modifications are needed; and collect speed and travel-time data.

To help with school traffic, no work will be done during the week between I-135 and Grove while school is in session.

Did you know that watering every other day can help our plants during periods of hot, dry weather?

➡️ Watering every other day encourages deep root growth, prevents root rot, saves water, and reduces fungal diseases compared to daily watering. It forces plants and lawns to chase moisture downward, building resilience against summer heat and dry spells.🌱

💧 If you have an even address, watering days are: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday
💧 If you have an odd address, watering days are: Wednesday, Friday, Sunday

No watering on Mondays! And be sure to water before ⏰ 🌞 10 a.m. or after 6 p.m.🕰️ 🌙

Applications for the City of Wichita’s Division of Arts and Cultural Services 2027 Activation Grants are open. 🎨 🖼️ 🖌️

➡️ Did you know you can see projects these grants have funded all over Wichita? For example, artist Eva Cummings created this mural with the help of an Arts Activation Grant from the City. Her mural is not just public art that makes our community more vibrant, it stands as a declaration that art belongs to everyone, regardless of ability.

This weekend is the last weekend for pools, and it's going to be a scorcher! We have a variety of opportunities for residents to escape the heat. 🌞 🕶️ ⬇️

🏊 The Aley, College Hill, Harvest and Minisa pools will close for the season at 6 p.m. on Sunday, September 6, so make sure and get out and enjoy the cold water this Saturday and Sunday from 1–6 p.m.

⛲ Residents are welcome to enjoy the 10 open splash pads as a fun way to cool off. Splash Pads will close on Sunday, September 27 at 8 p.m. for the season.

🆒 Between libraries, recreation centers and neighborhood resource centers, the City has an assortment of different public locations for residents to visit during extremely hot weather. Be sure to check facility hours!

🚌 Riders can travel to a City facility by simply boarding a Wichita Transit bus and telling their driver to which location they are traveling. Transit will pick up and drop off riders at the stop closest to the cooling station. Vouchers will not be required. Buses will pick riders back up at the cooling stations and allow them to exit at any stop along the route. Information on routes may be found at Wichita.gov/transit.

A new emergency care option is coming to east Wichita! 🏥

Today, Mayor Lily Wu joined Via Christi leaders and community partners to break ground on the new Ascension Via Christi East ER near 127th Street East.

The new facility will provide 24/7 emergency care and is expected to serve more than 10,000 patients each year. 👏
