Along with a change of seasons, September also brings many other changes: a new school or new school year, new routines, new teachers, and new classmates, just to name a few.  Although often exciting and enjoyable, for some children the new school year can also be stressful and anxiety provoking if...

We are celebrating Banned Books week at the Bethel College Library! In the United States we are currently seeing a huge uptick in the amount of challenges to books in schools particularly.
To honor the literature that pushes the boundaries of the societally acceptable and does so boldy, we have created a display for these books!

Our Freedom to Read Policy
“Bethel College Librarians are dedicated to the core values of our profession that support and uphold intellectual freedom and the right to read of each member of our Bethel College community and beyond.

We are guided by particular expressions of these core values including the American Library Association’s Code of Ethics, Core Values of Librarianship, Library Bill of Rights and Freedom to Read Statement, and the Kansas Library Association Statement on Intellectual Freedom, which assert that the freedom to read for all is essential to a healthy, functioning democracy.”

Happy reading to all!

In 1999, a ruling for a sexual assault case was overturned by the Italian Supreme Court. They stated that the victim was wearing skinny jeans, and she must've helped take them off, thus implying consent. This case sparked outrage across the nation.

Denim Day was created in protest of that ruling. Today we ask that you wear denim and stand in solidarity with those who have been sexually assaulted and spread awareness.

As we approach finals you might be in need of a quiet space to study, relax, or pass the time. On the 3rd floor of the library there are many great study spots, some more hidden ones are in the old section of the library! Including The New York Times Room, the Group Study rooms and spaces, and individual rooms of study.

What better way to start a celebration of notorious women in history than with the “Notorious RBG” and Sandra Day O’Connor, the two first female United States Supreme Court Justices!

“Notorious RBG”: is a very clean and easy presentation of Justice Ginsburg’s life and role in women’s rights. If you don’t want a 200 page academic history this is easy and palatable.

Sisters in Law: This one intersects the histories of these two trail blazing ladies!

Check out these books or any in our Women’s History Month display on the “Notorious Women in History.”
