Great Reads from Great Places
Every year, a list of books representing the literary heritage of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands is distributed by the Library of Congress’s Center for the Book during the National Book Festival. Each book is selected by a local Center for the Book or state library and most are for children and young readers. Books may be written by authors from the state, take place in the state, or celebrate the state’s culture and heritage. The two selections to represent Kansas are usually Kansas Notable Books.

"The National Center for the Book has just named its 2024 Great Reads from Great Places for Kansas. On this week's KPR Presents, we'll hear from Susan Jonusas, author of "Hell's Half Acre: The Untold Story of the Benders" and Grant Snider, author of "One Boy Watching." We'll also revisit a conversation with KJ Dell'Antonio, author of "The Chicken Sisters," coming to the Hallmark+ Channel next month."

Did you know our Friends of the Valley Center Library butterfly garden is an official Monarch Way Station, registered with Monarch watch.org?

It was nice seeing Monarch Watch at the University of Kansas receive some recognition in this segment of 60 Minutes from Sunday. One of the more than 50,000 Monarch Waystations which have been encouraged and registered by Monarch Watch is in our yard.
