All, this is a call to action. It’s going to be very important that you reach out to your council member and ask them to vote yes on our resolution. You can let them know that this will not cost anything and that you, as the public, deserve a public vote and commitment from the county council on this very important issue. It is so important that this process is correct moving forward. Right now, Councilman Toole, Councilwoman Dee Durham and I may not be able to get the seven votes needed to pass this unless the council members hear from their constituents. This will be voted on Tuesday, 8/26. You can also make plans to join us in person or via Zoom, share your concerns, and ask the council to publicly support you as the public and look into this important issue. Here is a link to our webpage with the information on how to join Zoom when this resolution is heard; there will be public comment and your opportunity to speak on the issue: https://www.newcastlede.gov/2342/Meetings-and-Agendas
This major step toward holding Tyler Technologies accountable for the property reassessment.
Here’s why this is so important:
The County Auditor (already a salaried employee, no new cost to us) will review Tyler’s reassessment methods, quality controls, and the fairness of the appeals process.
The resolution even requires the Auditor to look into “the extent to which the County provided direction or oversight during the reassessment.” That means not only Tyler, but also how our County managed the process.
By October 24th, the Auditor must report back with findings and if necessary, recommend an independent third-party audit for a deeper investigation.
This resolution is sponsored by Councilman David Tackett, Councilman Brandon Toole, and Councilwoman Dee Durham. Three representatives already standing up for transparency and fairness.
Now it’s your turn to reach out:
This is a positive step toward accountability. Let’s back it 100%.
