A REAL REMINDER OF WHY FIRE SAFETY MATTERS 🧯

Last night, before the Highland County Fair even officially opened, Paint Creek Joint EMS & Fire District Station 23 was dispatched at 12:42 a.m. to a working fire involving a concession stand at the Highland County Fairgrounds.

First and foremost, we’re thankful for the firefighters and first responders who answered the call and worked the scene.

Incidents like this are also a very real reminder of something we preach every day at Irwin Fire Equipment: fires don’t make appointments.

They can happen in the middle of the night, during business hours, at a fair, in a restaurant, shop, barn, vehicle, or your own home.

Having a fire extinguisher hanging on the wall isn’t enough. You need the right extinguisher for the hazard, properly located, properly maintained, and professionally inspected so it’s ready when you actually need it.

This weekend, Irwin Fire Equipment will be onsite at the Highland County Fair Sunday through Wednesday, helping support fire safety throughout the fair.

And this year will be even more special for us—the third generation of Irwin Fire Equipment will be right there with us, learning firsthand why this business and the work we do matters.

For us, it’s more than inspecting extinguishers and putting tags on equipment. It’s about helping protect the businesses, organizations, events and communities we call home.

Last night was the reminder.

Don’t wait until after a fire to think about fire safety. Make sure your equipment is there, inspected, and READY before you ever need it.

8 PM and the trucks are JUST NOW getting parked. Shop lights are still on, dinner is finally happening, and then it’s straight to the office for a night full of invoicing.

45+ work orders completed in TWO DAYS. 🔥

While some are shutting the lights off at 5, we’re still stacking work orders and putting the Irwin Fire name on more national chain locations.

Hundreds of customers on the list, phones ringing, trucks rolling, and yeah—we’re a little behind.

Business ownership isn’t for the weak.

It’s early mornings, late nights, missed lunches, long miles, and figuring out how to get things done when there never seems to be enough hours in the day.

But you know what? We wouldn’t have it any other way.

We prayed for the growth. We worked hard for the growth. And now we’re living it.

🔥 SUPPORT LOCAL, EAT LOCAL! 🔥

Today while Irwin Fire Equipment was out servicing fire extinguishers around Highland County, we had the opportunity to stop by All American Griddle and service their fire extinguishers as well.

Of course, we couldn’t leave without giving the food a try for the first time—and WOW! 🤤🔥 The food was absolutely amazing! Great food, great people, and another awesome local business that deserves the community’s support.

As a small family-owned business ourselves, we know just how much it means when people choose to spend their money locally. Every meal, every share, and every recommendation helps keep businesses like this going.

While the boys spend the day school shopping, playing, and just being kids, Irwin Fire Equipment is hard at work at the Wilmington Air Park.

Today, we were reminded that every business has a story—and ours began long before the name on the truck said Irwin Fire Equipment.

While meeting with a customer today, the conversation quickly turned to Bob Haller, the founder of Haller Fire Equipment. They shared stories about Bob as if he were family, and it was easy to understand why. Bob wasn’t just in the fire protection business—he genuinely cared about the people he served.

In 1941, Bob Haller founded Haller Fire Equipment with a commitment to honest work, dependable service, and protecting lives and property. Through decades of hard work, he built one of the area’s most respected fire equipment companies. His customers weren’t just accounts—they became lifelong friends. Even after retiring, Bob stayed involved, always willing to answer questions, share his knowledge, or lend a helping hand whenever he could.

In 1994, my dad, John Irwin, had the opportunity to carry that legacy forward. When he purchased the business, the name changed to Irwin Fire Equipment, but the mission never did. Dad believed that the reputation Bob built was something to be protected, not replaced. He continued serving customers with the same honesty, integrity, and commitment that Haller Fire Equipment had become known for.

Today, I’m honored to continue that tradition as the third generation leading the company. While we’ve added new technology, expanded our services, and grown throughout Ohio, the foundation remains exactly the same: treat people right, provide dependable fire protection, and always stand behind our work.

Every extinguisher we inspect, every business we help protect, and every customer who calls Irwin Fire Equipment is part of a legacy that started with Bob Haller in 1941 and has been carried forward through generations.

Today, we don’t just represent Irwin Fire Equipment—we represent the history, values, and reputation built by Bob Haller and continued by my dad, John Irwin. That’s a responsibility we never take for granted.

For the next week and a half, we’ll be hitting the road to spend some quality time with family up north and cheer Sara on as she competes in a few major disc golf tournaments. Family means everything to us, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to make these memories together.
