Wilmington's Big Talker FM – WFBT

We return to The Big Talker, 106.7 FM, tomorrow morning to sit down again with Joe Catenacci at 7:30am to talk about all things water.

It's been a busy couple of weeks here in the Cape Fear Region. We'll talk about the next steps for our client, Belville, in the wake of Monday's court decision against the H2GO transfer, cover House Bill 518 introduced by Harper Peterson to address state PFAS standards, and talk about CFPUA's deal with Wrightsville Beach to provide low-cost water after a WB well was tainted with GenX by CFPUA's ASR project.

We'll also talk about our speeches to Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania water leaders following the announcement of the EPA's so-called "PFAS Action Plan."

KEMP BURDETTE: Waterways already are in peril; don't make them worse

Inadequate source water protection is the reason why we're in the PFAS mess we find ourselves in. While we took issue with Cape Fear River Watch during the Consent Order process, they are strong advocates with the safety of our waterways.

This isn't a red or blue issue. It impacts your drinking water, people. https://www.starnewsonline.com/opinion/20190412/kemp-burdette-waterways-already-are-in-peril-dont-make-them-worse

Joe is one of the most informed members of the media when it comes to #PFAS and drinking #water.

People put conservatives like Joe in a box when it comes to environmental issues but that is an enormous mistake.

We’ve been on about a dozen times now and conversations have always been informative and entertaining. Today should be no different.

Ray Nothstine of #NC Civitas Institute was at CPAC 2019 over weekend and gives perspective at 8a on President Trump's two-hour speech from Saturday! WaterPIO to Speak about PFAS & Emerging Contaminant Communications at Major Conferences This Month

WaterPIO is proud to announce that we're back out on the road this month, called upon by professionals throughout the Southeast to speak about communications-related issues affecting the water industry.

This month, WaterPIO will speak about PFAS & emerging contaminant communications at two major conferences. On February 12, we will be a Featured Speaker at the Catawba-Wateree Water Management Group's "Water for All" Summit.

We will address how to answer the basic question being raised by PFAS and emerging contaminant discoveries: Is My Water Safe to Drink? We will then lead an illustrious panel of scientists, engineers, and water leaders tasked with tackling the PFAS and EC problem through a series of questions on the topic.

On February 21 and 22, WaterPIO will talk about PFAS & emerging contaminant communications again, this time at the South Carolina Rural
Water Association's Decision Makers Summit.

We're also continuing our work with the North Carolina Rural Water
Association to train their members on customer and crisis communications. This month, we will present at two NCRWA trainings in LaGrange and Burlington, North Carolina.

OPINION, Mike McGill: Our area is the loser in Chemours deal

We worked with the StarNews to weigh in on the sweetheart deal Chemours negotiated for itself for their #PFAS contamination of the Cape Fear River.

#Water utilities and their customers will pay hundreds of millions more than the chemical giant to clean up their drinking water.

While environmentalists get significant levels of oversight to stop future pollution, Chemours gets a promise that it can’t be punished for past sins.

All for the bargain price of $13 million and improvements they already felt compelled to make.

How is that a bargain? They made $275 million in profits last quarter. $275 million in pure profit in three months.

Mixed reactions among Wilmington officials to GenX deal

We’lI be on the air Monday with Joe Catenacci on Wilmington’s Big Talker, 106.7 FM at 8:30am to talk about the Consent Order and how it’s a winner for several parties, including Chemours. Especially Chemours.

Who loses? The Cape Fear Region’s #water utilities and their customers.

Researchers to hold public meeting about GenX blood test results in New Hanover Co.

We've been in the middle of the #GenX issue here in SE NC, handling #PFAS and #water #communications for multiple clients. We took part in the blood/urine study; it was the right thing to do. We will be at tonight's meeting for ourselves and our clients.

We'll then be on the air tomorrow morning with @JoeCats19 on @wfbtfm at 8am to talk about the #GenX blood/urine results and give our take on what they mean for the #CapeFear region, and the #water industry as a whole. 8am on 106.7FM or listen online. https://wilmingtonbigtalker.com/

We've received some questions of late. Yes, @wfbtfm is conservative talk radio and people dismiss #water quality conversations on such stations. That is a mistake. Outside of @whqr's award-winning work, no radio station has provided more time to educate the public about the #GenX issue.

Issues about #water quality should not be driven with so many of our other issues into partisan corners. That is how problems fester and grow instead of being solved.

We've spent the last two days at the EPA's latest #PFAS Community Engagement Meeting and at the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority's PFAS Workshop.

Tomorrow at 730a, we're on with Joe Catenacci on Wilmington's Big Talker, 106.7 FM @wfbtfm to talk about both events; what they mean when it comes to #GenX contamination across the region, state, and nation; and how the findings at both meetings impact the H2GO/Leland/Belville RO plant fight. #water

Podcast -

For the second time in a month, WaterPIO was the guest on a major national podcast to talk about hot-button water issues. This time, we joined The_H2ODuo from Rogue Water in Fort Worth, Texas.

The often hilarious conversation reviewed the state of today's water communications, starkly detailing how utilities can benefit from boosted customer satisfaction by:

- treating public communication just like any other utility operation, with the same levels of planning and preparation;
- directly engaging with customers, the media, and social media early and often;
- successfully overcoming scar tissue from past negative stories and online attacks; and
- publicizing the "Value of Water" by partnering with stretched reporters and news producers.

The "Water in Real Life" podcast is found on iTunes, Google Play for Android, and on Stitcher.

Mornings with Joe Catenacci – Wilmington's Big Talker FM

Since the discovery of GenX and other emerging contaminants came to light last year, Joe Catenacci has graciously brought us on his show to talk about water-related issues a dozen times. The conversations have been lively and informative, even if we don't share the same views on politics.

Today, we're pleased to plug the fact that we've been asked to help fill in Joe's shoes tomorrow morning starting at 7 a.m. on Wilmington's Big Talker, 106.7 FM. (Joe is one of the busiest people in media and is taking some much-earned time off.)

We'll be co-hosting the show and talking about all of the latest water-related news, including the latest GenX-related revelations and the drive to build a much-needed, groundwater reverse osmosis plant in the Cape Fear Region.

Hope you can tune in, pull us up on the Web, or listen through the Big Talker's app.

Words On Water #43: Mike McGill on Crisis Communications and Emerging Contaminants

It was an honor and a pleasure to sit down with Travis Loop of the Water Environment Federation for his worldwide "Words on Water" podcast. (It's been downloaded in more than 90 countries.)

The conversation was so lively we went well past his normal time as we talked about the benefits of: boosting customer communications; creating extensive crisis communications plans; and preparing for the impact of emerging contaminant discoveries.

His pod is also found on iTunes and Google Play for Android.

If you live or work in DC and have concerns about the boil water advisory, I can explain.

Headline is that it is a short-term precaution, not a water quality emergency.

These are rare in DC but not rare in other states where they are required with every main break or other failure that affects water pressure.

It is simply put in place out of an abundance of caution.

The people at DC Water are great. Before talking about larger blame on politicians in power or throwing around Flint, go to the utility’s website and get the information.

Or you can just ask me. I’ve dealt with hundreds of these situations.

EPA will move to label chemical found in drinking water 'hazardous'

Thanks to ABC News for including us in their coverage of the @EPA #PFAS Summit's exclusion of the Associated Press and CNN. Stretched media outlets serving PFAS-impacted communities rely on the AP, other national outlets for coverage of DC-based actions.
