International Seamen's Center, Inc

International Seamen's Center, Inc A Christian mission ministering to the spiritual and temporal needs of the thousands of international seafarers who sail into the Port of Wilmington every year.
(1)

Our organization has been operating out of the Port of Wilmington for four decades. We are a non-profit agency and our heart and soul is showing Christ's love through our continued commitment to the men and women who sail into our Port and seek shelter on our shores. We provide leisure activities such as ping pong, pool, TV, a piano, literature, and internet access. We especially focus on helping visitors contact family and friends back home, whether by selling them international phone cards, providing Skype on our computers or WiFi for their own. We offer clothing at a nominal price, all of which has been donated from local churches. We always keep snacks, beverages, travel-sized toiletries and North Carolina-themed post-cards and keychains available. Bibles are ALWAYS free to travelers and are available in over 12 languages. Our two eleven passenger vans allow us to bring seamen into Wilmington to address any other personal shopping needs they may have. Independence Mall is a frequent request - a great place to pick up gifts for family and loved ones back home! We feel so blessed to be able to do what we do, and it is only through the dedication of our volunteers and generosity of our community that we have been able to for so long. Please consider volunteering or donating to our mission today!

Mission: To minister to and serve the spiritual and temporal needs of seafarers.

Seamen's Center building install caps off lengthy process

The day is finally here!! After so much hard work and planning the new Center has arrived and will be operational SOON! We'll have some pictures of the delivery and installation up soon. In the mean time take a look at this article that appeared recently in the Greater Wilmington Business Journal:

Installation this week of a new home for the International Seamen’s Center of Wilmington capped a long learning process for the organization as well as for the company that supplied the building. For the center’s board of directors, the challenge was to find a suitable site within the Port of Wilmin...

Good morning everyone! What a beautiful day to be outside enjoying the summer.

Truly in the summer spirit, we are looking for donations of a small BBQ grill and some deck furniture (adirondack chairs, picnic table, whatever you may have) for our porch.

We are happy to arrange a pick-up for you if you're in the Wilmington area. Thank you as always for your support!

Hello friends of the Seamen's Center! Things are coming along wonderfully with our new building but we are still in need of some things. We will be updating daily with our immediate needs over the next few weeks and would love to hear from you if you are able to help. Today's item is:

A new or gently used GAME CONSOLE (preferably with a few games to get us started) to complement our brand new big-screen TV. If you have an old Xbox, Playstation, or especially a Wii our sailors would sure like us to take it off your hands! :)

Thanks to all who attended our July 13th event - we were so happy to spend the evening with you.

Our new building should be hitting the road to the new site in just a few weeks, stay tuned for updates!

Christmas at Sea | The Seamen's Church Institute

A wonderful program similar to the Adopt-a-Ship ministry we'll be participating in again this year. Last Christmas over 600 packages were delivered to some very grateful mariners, each containing a locally hand-knitted cap. We're always looking for helpers, so get in touch if your church would like to adopt a ship or you want to get involved!

The Seamen's Church Institute (SCI) promotes the safety, dignity and improved working environment for the men and women serving in North American and international maritime workplaces. Founded in 1834, the Institute is a voluntary, ecumenical agency affiliated with the Episcopal Church. Take a close...

Another great piece about us by the lovely Amanda Greene at Wilmington FAVS

The International Seamen's Center, a Christian ministry to seafarers coming in to the port of Wilmington, received a $75,000 grant to help it purchase a new building to replace the 1940s-era building it's been operating out of for the past 40 years.

Our Chaplain Ritchie Wammack will be delivering the Invocation at the NC State Port's annual observance of National Maritime Day with a wreath laying ceremony at the Veterans' Memorial at the Veteran's Memorial Riverfront Park in Downtown Wilmington. We are so honored that Ritchie has been asked to participate in this remembrance ceremony! His years of dedication to our visiting seafarers makes him the perfect candidate.

The event is Wednesday, May 22nd at 11am and is free and open to the public. Riverfront Park is adjacent to the Wilmington Hilton, and all are encouraged to attend.

International Seamen’s Center receives major funding for its new building

An update from Amanda Greene of Wilmington FAVs faithful coverage of our journey.

After 40 years welcoming seafarers to a patched and boarded up gray building, the volunteers of the International Seamen's Center at the port of Wilmington got to pick out wall and carpet colors for their new building this week.
