Why a Sociology Major?
A sociology education helps the student to think like a social scientist -- attentive to facts, probing with hypotheses, offering explanations, critical in offering and assessing arguments for conclusions.

Dr. Donna King recently participated in the a viewing of the documentary "Miss Representation," presented by New Hanover County's Sexual Violence Prevention Task Force of the R**e Crisis Center, Inc. in partnership with UNCW's Women's Studies and Resource Center. Dr. King spoke on "Media Images and Violence Against Women."
Congratulations to former Criminology graduate Jennifer Reingle (class of 2005) for being the first graduate of the University of Florida's Doctorate in Epidemiology!

When Wilmington Police Chief Ralph Evangelous convened a press conference in July to publicize the record number of illegal guns that had been seized, the collection of revolvers, semiautomatic pistols and rifles displayed on the table beside him spoke to the gravity of the city's gun problem.

With childhood obesity on the rise, one nonprofit organization has set out to do something about it. Feast Down East and Food Corps, a national AmeriCorps initiative, are partnering with New Hanover County Schools to begin providing school gardens as part of the daily classroom curriculum.
