Do You Know What Is A Standard Drink Size?🤔
80% of young people ages 10-18 say their parents are the leading
influence on their decision to drink or not drink. Talk to your kids about the dangers of underage drinking and encourage others to do so too. If you talk with your kids about the dangers of underage drinking, post #WeTalked on your Facebook or other media platforms you use. (samhsa, org)
Today is the Great American Smokeout! The Great American Smokeout is an opportunity for people who smoke to commit to healthy, smoke-free lives – not just for a day, but year round. The Great American Smokeout provides an opportunity for individuals, community groups, businesses, health care providers, and others to encourage people to use the date to make a plan to quit. The Great American Smokeout event challenges people to stop smoking and helps people learn about the many tools they can use to help them quit and stay quit. Attached is an informational sheet about the health benefits from quitting tobacco use. Below is a link to more information from the American Cancer Society.

More people than ever are facing hunger each day. We’ve already seen the COVID-19 crisis result in many families losing work and are unable to provide meals to their family’s table. Every summer we know that there are increased expenses for childcare when school is out, and the cost of utilities rise along with temperatures.
This year, summer hunger started early. Schools have been closed since March. Budgets for so many families are already stretched thin, and the stress of covering these additional costs is very real. The hardships that families often face during the summer months are already here, and extreme, due to COVID-19.
What can you do to help?
Because of COVID-19, none of us are eating out for lunch like we are used to. Join the Cape Fear Coalition for A Drug-Free Community and Share Your Lunch with a child, a parent or a grandparent in our community. Maybe you have saved $20 by not eating out once per week? Or $35 by not eating out twice per week? Or $50 by not eating out several times last month. Whatever the amount, we appreciate your thoughtful gift.
Go to http://secure.foodbankcenc.org/goto/capefearcoalition, click the green DONATE button at the right to make a donation. Every dollar donated provides 5 meals for our neighbors in need!
Thank you for your support!
