Congratulations to Officer Derek Blair on his well-deserved retirement after 26 years of service to the Town of Winchendon. Ofc. Blair grew up in Winchendon and is a graduate of Murdock High School. Prior to becoming a police officer, he served in the United States Army and is a veteran of the Persian Gulf War.
Committing oneself to a career in law enforcement, requires a great deal of personal sacrifice. Sacrifice of time, energy and often, peace of mind. We are grateful to Ofc. Blair for making these sacrifices in the interest of public safety and for the sake of serving the community for the last 26 years. Thank you – We wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
A brief ceremony will be held to recognize Ofc. Blair’s service at the Board of Select meeting on 9/14/2026. (7:00p.m. second floor auditorium, Town Hall).

The Police Department welcomes and congratulates Officer Angel Crespo. Angel successfully completed the 24 week long Basic Recruit Academy and was honored among his classmates at the graduation ceremony for the Holyoke 6th ROC Friday, July 31, 2026. Angel is joining the force as Winchendon’s newest member. Angel grew up in nearby Fitchburg and has become a part of the Winchendon community. We welcome Angel to the Department and wish him well as he embarks on his journey in public service.

K-9 Blitz Locates Domestic Violence Suspect

At approximately 10:38 p.m. on Tuesday July 21, 2026, Winchendon Dispatch received a 911 call requesting police response for a domestic disturbance. While officers were en route, dispatch advised officers that the suspect had fled the residence.

Following the initial investigation, officers determined that the suspect might have been in possession of a knife. A scent article was obtained, and K-9 Blitz began tracking the suspect. After a brief track, K-9 Blitz located the suspect hiding underneath a nearby utility trailer. The suspect surrendered without further incident and was taken into custody.

PRESS RELEASE

June 29, 2026

On August 25, 2025, at approximately 4:00 AM, Winchendon Police received a 911 call from a resident reporting his two ATVs were just stolen from his garage. Officers responded immediately and the ATVs were quickly found abandoned in the vicinity by the homeowners. Officers canvassed the area but were not able to locate the suspect(s). A 24 year old Eden Miranda of Providence, RI was developed as a suspect. Following an extensive investigation, Detective Caleb Similia obtained an arrest warrant for Mr. Miranda, which was issued by the Gardner District Court for: two counts of Larceny of Motor Vehicle and B&E Nighttime for a Felony.

The Providence Police Department was contacted and was requested to assist with the apprehension of Mr. Miranda. On June 25, 2026, Mr. Miranda was placed under arrest by Providence Police and was arraigned at the Garrahy Judicial Complex the following morning. Mr. Miranda is being held in Rhode Island pending extradition to Massachusetts.
