Cory Thompson for 2027 WISD Board of Trustees Place 4

Cory Thompson for 2027 WISD Board of Trustees Place 4 I'm a Winnsboro resident, parent, and operations leader who believes strong schools are a foundation of a strong community.

I have committed to serving our community by running for Place 4 on the WISD Board of Trustees.

It is very disappointing to see Brandon Green choose not to resign from his position on the school board, particularly in light of the affidavit that has been made public. The affidavit includes statements attributed to him indicating that he did not know he was a mandatory reporter, which raises serious concerns about accountability and leadership.
It was equally disappointing to see so many people defend or protect him simply because they know him personally, rather than taking the time to read the affidavit and evaluate the facts for themselves. Personal relationships should never outweigh accountability, especially when public trust is involved.
That said, I was encouraged by the 2-5 vote on the leadership reconfiguration. I believe it was the first vote of its kind in quite some time. We also saw a separate 1-6 vote on another agenda item, which was equally noteworthy and reflected a willingness among board members to take independent positions.
Had I won my election, the vote would have been 3-4 at a minimum. And who knows, with an additional voice advocating for accountability, perhaps a fourth vote could have been persuaded as well. We will never know.

I attended a funeral today for a woman who dedicated most of her life to protecting children. It was a beautiful testament to the impact one person can have through a lifetime of service, compassion, and selflessness

Earlier this year, I stated that the school board should step down and allow new leadership to move the district forward. That view remains unchanged, with the exception of the three newly elected members who were not involved in the issues that have brought the school to this point.

I believe Brandon Green should resign immediately and put the best interests of WISD ahead of his own. The district needs stability, focus, and leadership that prioritizes students, staff, and the community. By stepping aside, he would allow the remaining six board members to move forward without his legal distractions and focus on restoring public trust. He should take time to focus on himself and his family while allowing the board to do the work the community expects.

Likewise, any board member who believes they cannot effectively serve the district, or whose circumstances may prevent them from fulfilling their responsibilities, should consider stepping down. The focus should be on ensuring WISD has a board that can govern effectively, make sound decisions, and keep the district moving forward. If you’re going to be arrested please step down.

At this point, the community deserves accountability, transparency, and leadership that places the interests of students and taxpayers above all else. The priority should be rebuilding confidence in the district and ensuring the work of educating our children remains the board’s primary focus

Thank you all for each one of those 325 votes!

While the outcome wasn’t what I hoped for, I’m grateful for the chance to show my children what it means to lose with grace.

My commitment to serve hasn’t changed. I’ll run again wherever I can be most helpful, and I’m eager to see how this new board leads.

Accountability. Leadership. Teachers. Students.

That’s why I’m running for school board.

Less then 6 hours before the polls close

Fourteen years of raising a family here puts Election Day in perspective. Today is a snapshot of our community and the more of us who participate, the better and more representative that snapshot becomes.

Vote today because it’s the last day!

This is where I will differ if elected on May 2nd.

I expect my work to stand on its own.

If it doesn’t, I encourage open accountability in any forum.
