Teammates, kidney patients, living donors, recipients, and their families came out to enjoy fun in the sun at the AHWFB Teammate Appreciation Night with the Winston-Salem Dash.⚾️

It was an awesome opportunity to raise living donor awareness. We saw our very own Dr. Robert Stratta throw out a first pitch. 🧢 Living donor James Banner and his recipient, Phillip "Skip" Skipper, were recognized on the field alongside our incredible living donor coordinators, Colleen Sheehan and Hollie Davis. 💙 A huge thank you to all the teammates who hosted our Abdominal Organ Transplant Department living donor information table. Everyone made the event a home run! 👏🏼

One of our transplant surgeons, Dr. Alan Farney, stopped by a living donor champion session to share some valuable information and answer a few questions. Thank you, Dr. Farney—we celebrate your retirement and wish you the best!🎉 Our Director of Transplant Services, Carrie Simpkins, also joined us in another session to chat and take photos.

Our transplant team had an incredible time giving back by volunteering and serving a delicious meal at the SECU Family House to support patients and the families standing by their side.
We also send a warm thank you to the wonderful SECU Family House staff who assisted us with such kindness!

Through our Living Donor Champion Program, we strive to support our kidney patients through education, information and motivation. Our patients learn ways to advocate for themselves and receive resources to help them find a living kidney donor. These patients recently attended one of our Living Donor Champion sessions.

Celebrating National Donate Life Month this April, we successfully launched our inaugural Living Donor Champion Program Lunch & Learn, offering kidney patients a powerful glimpse into the transplant journey. We were honored to host a candid panel featuring Steven Headen (transplant candidate), Torsha Hicks (recipient), and Andrew Workmon (living kidney donor), who shared their personal stories with immense honesty and bravery. Their testimonials provided invaluable insights, hope, and actionable knowledge regarding the living donor process, empowering patients to take an active role in their transplant journeys.
