Today, we pause to reflect and remember.

Memorial Day is more than the unofficial start of summer or a long weekend with family and friends. It is a solemn reminder of the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation — Marines, Sailors, Soldiers, Airmen, Guardians, and Coast Guardsmen who never made it home.

As members and supporters of the 1st Marine Division Association, we carry a special responsibility to remember those who stood beside us, those who came before us, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of freedom.

Their legacy lives on not only in monuments and ceremonies, but in how we live our lives, support one another, and continue the bonds of camaraderie they helped forge.

This Memorial Day, may we all take time to reflect, remember, and honor them.

Semper Fidelis.

Shared by Mike Galyean: I was just informed by a Korean War friend that Jim Hostetler, one of the heroes of Fox Company 2/7, who kept the road open for the 1st Marine Division to escape from the Chosin reservoir, passed away today. If you have not read "Last Stand of Fox Company" you should. Here is an interview with Jim. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZLTkjr1n9c
Fox Company started off at Fox Hill with 248 Marines. Only 83 were left when they were evacuated from the hil. Of those, only 10 had not been wounded or suffered from frostbite. Jim had been wounded several times... was batting away Chinese grenades like baseballs with his e-tool.
Rest in peace, Marine... Semper Fidelis.
