We are posting this to add further context to our previous post.

I don’t think many people realize how much the Wolf Point Police Department, the Fort Peck Tribes, and the Sheriff’s Office handle on a daily basis.

Regarding the dirt bike issue specifically:

On Thursday, I personally- received five complaints from citizens regarding dirt bikes. The city also received four direct calls.

On Friday, we were dispatched multiple times to the southeastern part of the city for reports of three juveniles on dirt bikes. The final complaint came from someone at the senior center, who stated they asked the juveniles to stop, only to have them ride directly toward them.

We located the juveniles and spoke with the parent of one of the boys. While we were still in the south side, we were simultaneously dispatched to a report of a white dirt bike on the north side and to an intoxicated individual at Triangle Park. I located the white dirt bike on 6th Avenue and issued the rider a warning.

Shortly after, we were dispatched to a domestic dispute on the south side where a man was attempting to pull a woman out of a vehicle. Once that call was handled, I advised one of our officers that I had just warned the white dirt bike rider. He informed me he had seen the same rider continuing to ride recklessly and had given him a warning just minutes earlier. This was the same bike our officers had already warned the night before.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., I received yet another call about a dirt bike on the northeast side. The caller said, “Can’t you do something? They are terrorizing the neighborhood. I tried to talk to them and they laughed and revved the motor.”

All of this occurred before 4:00 p.m. yesterday.

These incidents are not isolated. On other days we’ve received complaints of dirt bikes racing on route 2, dirt bikes at the baseball fields, dirt bikes chasing people down the road and jumping out in front of moving vehicles on the roads. The list goes on and on. I even stopped one dirt bike on 6th where the man had his three-year-old child riding on the front — neither of them were wearing a helmet.

I rode dirt bikes as a kid myself and fully understand the fun they can bring. However, there is a clear line between having fun and simply not caring about your own safety or the safety of the people around you.

I also agree that our resources could often be better spent on other, more serious issues. However, when someone calls 911 or files a formal complaint, we are required to respond.

To our Wolf Point community,

We have received numerous complaints regarding illegal dirt bikes and other off-road vehicles being ridden on city streets. This activity is unsafe and disruptive to residents.

Effective immediately, the Wolf Point Police Department will no longer issue warnings and citations will be written.

Officers will also be impounding these vehicles on sight.

Impounded bikes will be held as evidence pending the final disposition of any and all written citations and until the owner provides proof of ownership.

If the owner of the vehicle decides to drive it on a public roadway, in a safe legal manner, the vehicle must be street legal, including proper lighting etc, carry proof of registration, and have a valid driver's license with a motorcycle endorsement.

We appreciate the community's patience and ask everyone to help keep our streets safe and lawful.

Parents, please talk with your children about only riding in off-road areas.

If you see unsafe riding, please report it to the Wolf Point Police Department.

Thank you for your cooperation.

***DOG FOUND***

This little lady was found hanging out at the Cenex West gas station. She has a pink collar on but there's no tag attached to it. She doesn't have a microchip either. If you can help us get her home, please call Animal Control at (406) 650-1903. Thank you.

We are thrilled to congratulate the graduates of Class 189 from the Montana Law Enforcement Academy.

A special shoutout to one of our own — Officer Logan Bushman! We are extremely proud of his accomplishment and couldn’t be happier to have him back with us. Welcome home, Officer Bushman, you've been missed!

On April 13, 2026, at approximately 6:25 p.m., WPPD officers responded to 3rd Ave, in reference to a report of a large group of individuals fighting.

A witness on scene reported that during the disturbance, a male subject briefly displayed a firearm from inside his bag.

Officers located the individual, who then fled on foot. A brief foot pursuit ensued, and the subject was apprehended without incident.

Officers did not locate a firearm during the search; however, they did seize a medium sized Tomahawk from the individual. Officers believe the witness observation of the black handle of the Tomahawk was possibly mistaken for a firearm.

The individual, later identified as a juvenile, was arrested and charged with the following offenses:

-Fleeing from or eluding a law enforcement officer
-Resisting arrest
-Carrying a concealed dangerous weapon
-Possession of drug paraphernalia
-Unlawful possession of intoxicating beverages by those younger than twenty-one years of age.

The Wolf Point Police Department takes possession of dangerous weapons, especially concerning juveniles very seriously. Such behavior is disturbing and will not be tolerated. We will continue to arrest and hold offenders accountable.

On April 10, 2026, Wolf Point Animal Control responded to a residence in Wolf Point regarding a reported dog bite. This was the third documented incident involving the same dog biting a person. A construction worker performing work at the neighboring property was bitten on the forearm after the dog, which was on a leash extending beyond the homeowner’s property boundaries, reached him. Wolf Point Animal Control made contact with the dog's owner and informed them that, under Montana state law, the dog was required to be quarantined for rabies observation. The dog's owner refused to comply with the quarantine requirements.

Shortly after, I responded to the residence, along with another Officer and Animal Control and offered the option of self-quarantine, which would have allowed the dog to remain at the home provided the owner met the following conditions:

The dog must be examined by a veterinarian.
The dog must remain inside the home.
The dog could go outside to use the bathroom, but the leash must be shortened so the dog could not leave the property.

The dog's owner refused to comply with these conditions also. I advised the dog's owner that failure to comply would result in the Wolf Point Police Department obtaining a search warrant to remove the dog. The dog's owner responded with "come on in and try it."

Later that day, the dog's owner came to the Wolf Point Police Department, where she again refused to comply with the rabies quarantine requirement. The dog's owner then contacted another agency and they responded to the home and also observed that the leash remained longer than the property boundaries, which allowed the dog to leave the yard. The dog's owner never disputed that their dog had left their property when it bit the worker, but they did refuse all options to remedy this situation without further police involvement.

On Monday, April 13, 2026, a judge reviewed the case and approved a search warrant authorizing the removal of the dog. The warrant was served without incident, and the dog was safely removed from the property. It should be noted that at any point during this 4 day process, the owner could have voluntarily surrendered the dog to Animal Control for the standard 10-day rabies observation hold, or agreed to the self-quarantine requirements which would have prevented this from escalating to removal of the dog via warrant.

While we understand that individuals often vent their frustrations on social media, we would like to remind the public that all of our police interactions are recorded on body-worn cameras. All incidents involving this case were no exception and all actions taken in this case complied with Montana State law and departmental policy.

Officers are frequently required to perform difficult and often unpopular tasks that are necessary to enforce the law and ensure public safety.

The Easter Bunny is coming to Wolf Point! 🐰

This Saturday, April 4th, from 2 to 4 pm, he will be standing outside of the Police Department, so if you pass by, make sure you beep or wave to him! If you would like to stop and get your photo taken with him, he will have treats to hand out. (He will have candy and non-candy items, so kids with allergies are included as well.) We hope to see you this weekend!
