Today, we honor Juneteenth, a day that commemorates freedom, resilience, and the enduring pursuit of justice. On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued, enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, finally learned of their freedom. This historic moment reminds us that freedom, while promised, must also be protected, celebrated, and advanced.

As FAMUans, we recognize the power of education, leadership, and community in shaping a brighter future. Juneteenth calls us to reflect on the sacrifices of those who came before us, celebrate the progress that has been made, and recommit ourselves to creating opportunities for generations to come.

May this day inspire us to continue walking in excellence, uplifting our communities, and honoring the legacy of those whose courage and perseverance made our journeys possible.
