Woodburn Fire Engine 21 and Tender 21 responded to a mutual aid structure fire this afternoon in the Hubbard Fire District.

The fire was reported by a passing motorist who noticed smoke coming from the residence and turned around to assist. The homeowners were not home at the time of the incident; however, firefighters were able to safely rescue the family’s three small dogs.

Crews quickly brought the fire under control and conducted a thorough search for fire extension to ensure the fire did not spread beyond the area or origin.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Woodburn Fire District Responds to High-Risk Grass Fire:

On June 3, 2026, Woodburn Fire District crews responded to a high-risk grass fire that originated from a legally permitted burn pile. Initial reports indicated that the fire was spreading into surrounding vegetation, creating the potential for rapid fire growth.

Responding units included Engine 23 from our Gervais Station, Engine 21, and Tender 21 from our Newberg Highway Station, along with a brush unit from Mount Angel Fire District.

Thanks to the quick response and coordinated efforts of all personnel involved, the fire was rapidly brought under control and contained within the original field, preventing further spread and damage.

Woodburn Fire District would like to remind the public that even after recent rainfall, light fuels such as dry grass can dry out quickly and become highly combustible. What may seem like safe burning conditions can change rapidly, allowing a fire to escape and spread unexpectedly.

Always monitor your burn continuously and never leave it unattended.

Congratulations to WFD's student residents Christopher Fitzpatrick and Alejandro Sandoval on completing their Fire Science degree programs and graduating from Chemeketa Community College on Friday.

Both Chris and Al will continue their education by enrolling in paramedic programs as they pursue their careers in the fire service. We are proud of their hard work, dedication, and commitment not only to the Woodburn Fire District but to the future of the fire service.

At approximately 12:41 a.m., Woodburn firefighters were dispatched to a barn fire just south of Woodburn.

Career firefighters from Engine 22 were the first to arrive on scene and found a metal barn and adjacent shed fully engulfed in flames. Woodburn’s second engine from Station 21 arrived shortly thereafter, followed by volunteer firefighters on Squad 21, student resident firefighters from Station 24, and mutual aid crews from the Hubbard, Mt. Angel, and Monitor fire districts.

Firefighters used rapid response and aggressive fire attack tactics to quickly bring the fire under control and extinguished both structures. No injuries have been reported.

While the barn and shed are likely considered a total loss, the rapid response and skilled fire attack prevented the fire from spreading to two nearby homes. The estimated value of the property saved exceeds $1 million.

We would like to thank all of the firefighters, volunteers, student resident firefighters, and members of the Woodburn C.E.R.T. team for their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to serving our community.

Their quick and effective actions helped protect lives and property during this incident.

A mutual aid response at a fire in Clackamas County west of Hubbard tonight has Woodburn Fire engine companies from Stations 21 and 22 working alongside partner agencies to contain the fire.

No injuries have been reported. Crews are working diligently, and no cause has been determined at this time. More information will be released as it becomes available.
