**Sometimes a 30-Minute Notary Appointment Needs 90 Minutes**

Today I arrived for what should have been a quick seller signing in a real estate transaction.

The document package was small, but when I arrived, I learned that one of the elderly signers had spent several hours in the emergency room the night before after a fall. She was understandably a little flustered.

So I slowed down.

Before proceeding, I spent time simply talking with her. We discussed the property she was selling and the transaction, and I gave her the time she needed to settle into the appointment.

My responsibility wasn't to rush through the package because it was small or because the appointment was expected to take 30 minutes. I needed to be satisfied that the signer was aware of what was taking place and signing willingly before I performed the notarizations.

The appointment ultimately took about 90 minutes.

That's part of providing professional mobile notary serviceā€”especially when working with seniors, families, and signers who may need a little more time.

Just because a signer is willing to sign doesnā€™t mean the signing should continue.

Interspousal Transfer Deed signings can sometimes come with strong emotions, frustration, and even hostility toward the spouse requesting the document. As a Notary Signing Agent, your role is not to mediate the situationā€”itā€™s to assess willingness, awareness, and the overall integrity of the signing.

If a signer appears agitated, pressured, or unwilling, pause and use your professional judgment. Protecting the signer, the transaction, and your commission should always come before getting documents signed.

When in doubt, stop the signing and seek guidance. Professionalism over production. Every. Single. Time.
